  • Daniel's shop is a wonderful find in Zurich. Some of the best-made timepieces in the world can be found at this location. Daniel also enjoys speaking with the client, and is not worried about the actual sale of a timepiece, but rather making sure each person understands the process and is happy with their visit - whether or not they buy something or are just window-shopping. A great guy and a great business.
  • A visit to Maurice de Mauriac is a must for anyone that appreciates quality design. In my mind, they were the pioneers of what has become very much the current trend of the stripped-down pilot watch on a nato strap. Even if you're not in the market for a new watch, go and visit them to breath life into your existing one, by choosing from one of the many bespoke straps. Daniel is always extremely generous with his vision, enthusiasm and keen to discuss your feedback, however small or detailed. A watch bought from him is not a sale but an invitation to a life-long relationship.
  • The owner Daniel Dreifuss is really creative and nice. The fact that this is a passed down family business makes Maurice de Mauriac even more appealing. I could even enjoy a coffee without being pressured to buy a watch! I really recommend this shop to everyone who loves a good style with a touch of class.
  • I own a Maurice de Mauriac Chronograph Modern Le Mans and I must say that it is my favorite watch among the other 2 high profile Swiss brands I own. The reason is beyond the fact that it is both functional and stylish at the same time. Daniel Dreifuss and his family are creating products with soul. One visit to the atelier or 10 minutes spent with Daniel and you will feel the wave of his passion wash over you. For many watchmakers, creating chronographs is a business. For Mr. Dreifuss, it is a passion born of love. He has come great new products in his divers series that anyone who travels should look give some series thought to purchasing. This is my current favorite of all of his products: Chronograph Diver CH_DI_11_08_XL. If you are ever in Zurich, do yourself a favor and visit his shop. You will never regret it.
  • I recommend Maurice de Mauriac if you are interested in a bespoke watch - especially a chronograph. Daniel Driefuss is a passionate watchmaker who is always interested in creating watches that suit the customer. Imaginative use of color is a hallmark of his brand.

Where to stay in Zurich

As the financial hub of the country, it shouldn't come as a surprise that staying in Zurich usually comes at a price. The city puts emphasis on its glamorous four- and five-star hotels and international chains that appeal to traveling professionals. There a handful of hostels and guesthouses for the budget-conscious traveler. When staying in Zurich, you'll find that the majority of the accommodation offerings are in close proximity to the city core, either on the left or right bank. The left bank is the glitzier of the two, with its grand restaurants, shops, and proximity to the banks and train station. The right side, as home to the Old Town, charms with its historical atmosphere. Here you'll find independently owned boutique hotels and some mid-range options. The city also sports several hotels geared toward wellness, with spas and saunas. These tend to be pricey too, but you're guaranteed a truly relaxing retreat.
