Fraumünster Church, Zurich

4.2
#3 of 13 in Historic Sites in Zurich
Admire the distinctive stained-glass windows designed by artist Marc Chagall at Fraumünster Church, a major landmark in the city's Old Town. Erected on the remains of a former Benedictine abbey for aristocratic city women, this 13th-century Gothic church features an eye-catching blue spire rising proudly over the city's skyline. In addition to Chagall's windows in the choir stalls and the southern transept, which depict various biblical stories, the church also boasts a 9 m (30 ft) tall stained glass by Swiss painter Augusto Giacometti. • I didn't enter, but outside is very beautiful. Is seen from various points of the city, easy access. Has many tourists but not enough to bother.

  • The first time was in October 2015 year and entry was free. Very was surprised when this year asked for input 5 francs. Switzerland again surprised the business approach, and the fact that they sold during the second world war anti-aircraft guns for the Germans (the name is quite well-known and plant in Zurich (HALLENSTADION))

  • Beautiful stained glass and clearly well cared for church. Not as big on the inside as it looks it would be but still an interesting visit. It was CH 5 entry.
  • Beautiful area, great photo opportunities. The market area is full of food and clothing vendors. Be sure to spend some time on the lake down the road!
  • Simple interior, beautiful windows The SF5 worth the entrance fee. Very peaceful and calm interior despite many tourists. Photography inside not allowed
  • What amazing Church. You can see it pretty much from any view point of the city. Beautiful and Stunning!
  • The Chigall windows are amazing and well worth the admission price. Admission includes an excellent audio commentary tour.

Where to stay in Zurich

As the financial hub of the country, it shouldn't come as a surprise that staying in Zurich usually comes at a price. The city puts emphasis on its glamorous four- and five-star hotels and international chains that appeal to traveling professionals. There a handful of hostels and guesthouses for the budget-conscious traveler. When staying in Zurich, you'll find that the majority of the accommodation offerings are in close proximity to the city core, either on the left or right bank. The left bank is the glitzier of the two, with its grand restaurants, shops, and proximity to the banks and train station. The right side, as home to the Old Town, charms with its historical atmosphere. Here you'll find independently owned boutique hotels and some mid-range options. The city also sports several hotels geared toward wellness, with spas and saunas. These tend to be pricey too, but you're guaranteed a truly relaxing retreat.
