Botanischer Garten, Zurich

4.3
#6 of 18 in Parks in Zurich
Examine wild plants in an unconventional layout and bubble-shaped greenhouses filled with exotic species at Botanischer Garten. Run by Zurich's flagship university and developed near the edge of the campus, this oasis of greenery breaks away from the traditional design of other central European gardens by growing wild species of plants in an informal layout. Gardeners avoid systematic flowerbeds and allow nearly 9,000 different wild plants to bloom scattered across a total area of over 5.3 hectares (13 acres). Three tropical domes create ideal conditions for growing exotic plants from around the world, providing visitors with a chance to experience diverse natural ecosystems near the heart of a major urban center. • The botanical garden is a good option if you want to walk in the nature and enjoy the warm weather for a couple of hours without leaving the city. I really liked the tropical section and the piranha p...  more »
  • Outside you can stroll in the garden and the various plants/trees. Nameplates are available. The top attraction in the garden are the dome greenhouses where there are in each dome mimic another warm climate with their corresponding planting.

  • The new Botanical Garden Zürich is very lovingly. He is certainly not so huge to consider how it makes other botanical gardens, but fun through walk in the spring or summer, and the flowering plants. In the summer it is worth to take a book and to sit on one of the chairs at the pond, and to read. But even in bad weather, the three Palm tree houses are recommended. There is much to discover. A very rewarding visit.

  • One of the most relaxing and beautiful places in Zurich.. great exhibit as well.
  • Beautiful place to be
  • In the greenhouse of the Dome you can walk by a zone to another to find the appropriate plants and animals. It's almost like a vacation. A visit is worth always no matter what season.

Where to stay in Zurich

As the financial hub of the country, it shouldn't come as a surprise that staying in Zurich usually comes at a price. The city puts emphasis on its glamorous four- and five-star hotels and international chains that appeal to traveling professionals. There a handful of hostels and guesthouses for the budget-conscious traveler. When staying in Zurich, you'll find that the majority of the accommodation offerings are in close proximity to the city core, either on the left or right bank. The left bank is the glitzier of the two, with its grand restaurants, shops, and proximity to the banks and train station. The right side, as home to the Old Town, charms with its historical atmosphere. Here you'll find independently owned boutique hotels and some mid-range options. The city also sports several hotels geared toward wellness, with spas and saunas. These tend to be pricey too, but you're guaranteed a truly relaxing retreat.
