Botanical Garden (Botanischer Garten), Zurich
(4.4/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Examine wild plants in an unconventional layout and bubble-shaped greenhouses filled with exotic species at Botanical Garden (Botanischer Garten). Run by Zurich's flagship university and developed near the edge of the campus, this oasis of greenery breaks away from the traditional design of other central European gardens by growing wild species of plants in an informal layout. Gardeners avoid systematic flowerbeds and allow nearly 9,000 different wild plants to bloom scattered across a total area of over 5.3 hectares (13 acres). Three tropical domes create ideal conditions for growing exotic plants from around the world, providing visitors with a chance to experience diverse natural ecosystems near the heart of a major urban center. • Quite fantastic collection, amazingly maintained garden. I went in autumn, which is perhaps not the best time for most plants, however, I especially loved the tropical domes, and they didn't seem to b...  more »
  • This quiet pole, not far from the Centre away, worth it for a relaxing stopover. Beautiful plant species and water bodies let us linger and be amazed. Beautiful flowers to far in the autumn.

  • I didn't have a whole lot of time here, and judging from some of the pictures, I missed at least one entire section of the garden. But it's a very nice place to go to get some quiet. There's a bit of ...  more »

  • I really encourage you to walk from downtown Zurich to the botanic gardens. It is a decent walk but you'll get the pleasure of enjoying the suburbs and tree lined streets outside of the main business district. The gardens are expansive and offer a range of varieties for all tastes. We enjoyed bringing our afternoon tea and sitting in the last rays of the sun.
  • What a wonderful garden! Lots of variety of plants, super well taken care of and with basic information. The place is very relaxing, great for walks, bringing a book to read and enjoying the nature. It changes dramatically in the different seasons, with almost something wonderful to offer.
  • It's a huge garden with plants from all over the world — most of them with labels, so you can learn their families, latin and german names. There are also greenhouses with plants that prefer warmer climate — but beware, they are not available after 5 p.m. Lots of benches to sit on, not much people around, so this place is great for quiet thinking and resting.
  • Perfect serene place in the middle of the city. Free to enter too
  • Best place to visit when the weather turn dramatically. You get to see a bunch of rare flora from different climate in these free access dome
