Where to stay in Grindelwald

In the resort town of Grindelwald, the main street is dotted with mid-range hotels where you can rest after a long day of skiing and shopping. For ease of convenience, opt to stay closer to the city's one train station. Wander a bit off the main road to find a handful of hostels, guesthouses, and bed and breakfasts--though be warned that their rates are similar to the hotels in town. If you feel so inclined, indulge at one of the upscale hotels for a luxurious stay in this glacier town.

  • and great experience. Yes, the glacier may be a kilometre away, but getting there is spectacular. Information boards tell you the story and there is a small spigot that allows you to taste Eiger glaci...  more »
  • What a spectacular gorge, and so conveniently located just on the edge of Grindelwald (we walked there from the village - easy). Seems like a bit of a hidden gem, and agree with other reviewers who ar...  more »
  • This gorge may be nice, it is still completely overrated and overpriced. You will be charged as much as 19 swiss francs for the only 1 km long path across this gorge. Like in any other gorge, you will...  more »

  • This is a beautiful gorge well worth visiting. The hike is very easy but be mindful of the wet places and the low hanging ceiling at certain places. The path is massive stone for the biggest part but sometimes you will be walking on an overhang. Some places are even metal crate so you can see down. Might be tricky if you suffer from vertigo. At the very end you can meet the local glacier giant so there might be a motivation for the kids ;) Another highlight is certainly the net that was hung across the canyon. I did not dare to go on it but my son loved it. Certainly impressive and a photo opportunity. The Restaurant at the beginning is lovely with a nice playground. We only had drinks so I cannot rate the food. There is a post bus station right in front of it which will take you back to Grindelwald through a very scenic wood.
  • Amazing place. Power of the nature. Temperature inside is not much higher than 10 degrees (c) even in high summer season. This is good place to cool down.
  • Very, very disappointing! It is nice to see the power of water – but it is much less impressive and more than twice expensive compare to Aare Gorge Aareschlucht On top of that there is a construction on the way, and there is no mark( at least noticeable and surely not in English) about the right way
  • It's a sightseeing walk between mountains where you see a lot of waterfalls underneath. It's a 2 km walk for going and coming back. There are more beautiful waterfalls in interlaken but it's worth the try. The ticket was 20 CHF per adult.
  • A great spatial experience that is a must do after having been on the mountain tops, only one hour walk to and fro so it's not long and worth while.
