Fondation Beyeler, Riehen

(4.4/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Fondation Beyeler operates the museum that owns and exhibits the art collection of the late Ernst and Hildy Beyler. The husband-and-wife couple amassed a large collection of modern classics during their lifetimes. A highlight of the museum is the collection of 23 pieces by Pablo Picasso; the museum also features works by Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Andy Warhol. The Beyelers created the foundation and museum to house their substantial art collection and provide public access to the pieces. The museum's glazed building sits nestled in Berowerpark, where special exhibits periodically take place. Fondation Beyeler is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Riehen Edition.

  • I went for the third time in this museum. Each time, the experience was wonderful. Temporary exhibitions are of high quality and the audio guides very well done. Only downside, the audio guide for children exists only in German. Otherwise the exposed works are illuminating and even major. When you love the Impressionists and modern art, it's heaven.

  • Beware of special exhibitions, because collection is not accessible. After long travel and expensive entrance, our small group had to determine that the works in the collection were not to see. No corresponding reference on the Internet! No sign, no notice at the entrance, and even no understanding in this complaint (as we find) unacceptable visitors deception. The suspicion arises that here quite consciously not a restrictions indicated, not to restrict visitor potential. This is a cultural institution doesn't appreciate and does not correspond to ideal and vision of a foundation that so literally "would like to make accessible art", let alone with an entrance fee of 26 per visitor. We are very upset and can only warn against this disappointment.

  • Visit of the exhibition of Kandinsky, beautiful works... Permanent exhibition closed... Entry 25fr + 8 en for audio guide, it's really the art of the scam... Even in Switzerland, there are a lot of much more complete art exhibition for a more reasonable price. It's really a shame to deprive the less well-off people of access to this kind of exposure.

  • Very functional and still stylish place! You are completely happy when the exhibition you visit answer your expectations. If not - you can always go around to see some nice things in the park
  • A must-see museum. The building itself is spectacular and your are sure to be impressed by any exposition they have. Whenever I'm in Basel I go without even checking the current exposition. I'm sure to be thrilled.
  • Easy to get to, fantastic grounds and building. The Calder exposition was excellent. It is however, expensive. But worth it.
  • Lovely grounds, impressive collection and terrific exhibits...but the harsh lighting does them no favors. A few of the staff are rather snooty.
  • Very nice exhibition, with some very famous artists. The building, designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano, is beautiful.
