4.3/5 based on 60+ reviews on the web
Uncover the layers of history at Musee de la Porcelaine, a museum housed within a 13th-century castle. The elegant white castle overlooking the Canton of Vaud was first mentioned in 1272 but likely dates back to the Lords of Prangins. Having undergone multiple restorations and renovations, it remains a Swiss heritage site of national significance. In 1888 a historical museum was opened within it, now on the second and third floor. The collection contains wallpaper, furniture, and the history of Nyon starting from 1000 BCE and continuing through the 20th century. In 1947, over 700 porcelain pieces reclaimed from the 19th-century Nyon porcelain factory were added, making up the first floor. • Located in the city centre, the Nyon Castle renovated a few years ago is the birthplace of the history of porcelain in Nyon. Temporary exhibitions are also located place. On the top floor, the old prison cells give us a glimpse of what was still 40 years ago the life of the prisoners who were there from time to time. The impressive frame is also worth to be seen. Wheelchair access is not recommended, but an elevator allows older or slightly disabled people to visit the Castle. The view on the shore and the Lake District is beautiful.
