Rhine Falls, Neuhausen

(4.7/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
Experience the power of nature at Rhine Falls, Europe's largest waterfall. Formed during the last ice age, the thunderous waterfall once inspired Goethe to compare it to the "source of the ocean." A popular destination for day-trippers from Zurich, the fall spans 150 m (450 ft), its water plummeting from a height of 23 m (75 ft). Most visitors choose to admire and photograph this awesome natural spectacle from a medieval castle located on the left bank of the river, but you can also take a ferry all the way to a large rock sitting in the middle of the waterfall. If you do choose to come that close, don a raincoat first. Make Rhine Falls a part of your Neuhausen vacation plans using our Neuhausen vacation builder.

  • The Rhine falls is worth every season a trip. It is worth to see the spectacle on both sides and in highlight is the boat ride to the rock.

  • A good place to visit if you want to relax and see the amazing gush of nature at the same time. April and onwards is the best season. Boat ride to the island to get a panoramic view is a must, the rest of the boat rides are not necessary so do you waste money in them. Restaurants in here are expensive and not very special, so suggest eating a or something while you are here. Have fun and hope you get good weather!
  • I swear I should be a Pisces, not a Virgo---I love water so much and this place does not disappoint! Although summer is the best time (with the falls swollen, mighty and rushing) it's a great place anytime! For best pics, I'd recommend late spring and summer. The greenery surrounding it adds so much to your photos.
  • Must see, a 40min train from Zurich and then you can take the lifts straight down falls. Wonderful views from all sides, you can go on a boat for close up views but it's not required. Enjoyable place to spend a few hours.
  • “Spectacular” This is a must see, the trip there is also really good as you get to see some beautiful Swiss countryside and then you get to the falls, wow, I couldn't wait to get into the boat that takes you to the rock right at the base of the falls. You climb up some pretty steep stairs but at the top it is truly spectacular, you could not get any closer to the falls if you tried. On the way we were told that on average there would be 250,000 litres of water per second flowing and just after the snow melts this figure can get up to as high as 600,000.
  • It was a wonderful experience. To reach this place from Zurich you need to take a 45 mins drive. On the way you can see grassy plains on both side of the road. I would recommend visiting this place very early in the morning when it is less crowded. An absolute must visit on any trip to Zurich.
