Experience the power of nature at Rhine Falls, Europe's largest waterfall. Formed during the last ice age, the thunderous waterfall once inspired Goethe to compare it to the "source of the ocean." A popular destination for day-trippers from Zurich, the fall spans 150 m (450 ft), its water plummeting from a height of 23 m (75 ft). Most visitors choose to admire and photograph this awesome natural spectacle from a medieval castle located on the left bank of the river, but you can also take a ferry all the way to a large rock sitting in the middle of the waterfall. If you do choose to come that close, don a raincoat first. A visit to Rhine Falls represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Neuhausen online road trip planner to plot your vacation.

Rhine Falls Reviews
This was a beautiful place. We had a sunny day which made for some great rainbow sightings reflected in the mist. We wandered down close to the falls and enjoyed the noise and force of the falls. It w... more »
On the basis this is Europes biggest waterfall I can't give it less than top marks! You can view from either side of the river (Laufen side is the better) or from one of the numerous boat trips. Even ... more »
The Rhine Falls is the biggest waterfall in Europe. It is spectacular to see such a big waterfall right in front of us. more »
Great place to spend 2-3 hours. We parked on the east/South side, parking is free (next to plastic cows). Next to parking is ticket center and restrooms (free) behind that. We didn't buy the tickets. We went through the bridge to the other side (go around the building), took pictures along the way. We got to the pier on the other side, did the 15 min boat ride (6 Euro per adult), that brought us back to the same pier. Then we took the boat across (normally is 2 Euro but is included if you buy any boat ride) and got back to the car. Note: boat across is included but only one way. The parking on the other side is not free, you can buy tickets to get access to some spots (I think 5. Euro), but we felt we saw enough. We had a 2 y o son with us+stroller. Not everything is stroller accessible, especially going up from boat stop up the hill- there is elevator, but many steps before it. You can feed the fish and ducks there too
It is an amazing place to spend a day with your family or friends. The beauty of the nature itself is enough. You can ride a bycicle, walk, even swim. They are restaurants and coffee shops. The water is pleasantly cold and clear
When you see it from afar, you might think "There's nothing very special about this. It doesn't even look very big." But when you take the boat ride to a rock (a viewing point) close to the waterfalls, you realize why this is Europe's largest waterfall. You get water spraying on you, and the sight of the waterfall at such close quarters is simply magnificent! Also, make sure you visit the quaint little town of Schaffhausen after the Rhine falls. There's not too much to see, but it's worth spending 3 hours there.
Beautiful waterfalls. One can reach nearer to falls and climb up the stairs constructed middle of falls to have breathtaking view of the falls. Worth visiting
A good place to visit if you want to relax and see the amazing gush of nature at the same time. April and onwards is the best season. Boat ride to the island to get a panoramic view is a must, the rest of the boat rides are not necessary so do you waste money in them. Restaurants in here are expensive and not very special, so suggest eating a or something while you are here. Have fun and hope you get good weather!
