The Swiss architect Mario Botta was assigned to rebuild the house. As a place for discussion and research, CDN supports critical debates about Dürrenmatt's artistic and literary works. Beside the temporary exhibition, the permanent exhibition "Friedrich Dürrenmatt, writer and painter" is open for public visit. Readings, concerts, colloquiums and debates take place regularly in the CDN. Apart from numerous exhibits of his literary works and rare exhibited paintings, the CDN offers a wide view over the Lake Neuchâtel and also the Bernese Alps.HistoryIn 1952, Friedrich Dürrenmatt moved to his house in the upper part of the city, where he lived and worked until his death on 14 December 1990 . He took his life beyond the Röstigraben as a theme in one of his works, especially the reality that he lived in the francophone part of Switzerland since 1952, but he wrote in German language. After his death, his former house was adapted and expanded for being used as a museum. The museum was opened officially in September 2000.

  • How can we build a building without windows in a place with a great view? The Botta typical! The Dürrenmatt expo leaves the impression of an unpleasant personality

  • By Dürrenmatt are known more writings that paintings, whereby to appreciate its major work maybe it is best to enter a library rather than a museum. The dominant position in green, Mario Botta's architecture and some interest however also for his paintings make anyway a viable destination for those who want to deepen their knowledge die one of the biggest Swiss literati. Near the botanical gardens, ideal for a contemplative combination of thickness.

  • It's a small museum but what concentration of quality! The architecture of Mario Botta is nestled in a green with a splendid view, do not hesitate to combine with a visit to the Botanical Garden located just before the rise. The eclectic work of FD is presented in different forms, as well as its commitments. The beautiful terrace of the cafeteria will make appreciate a time to reflect...

  • By Mario Bota, world-renowned Swiss architect, this quaint center-museum is far from the city of Neuchatel. Awesome place, interesting museum nestled in the forest. Amazing terrace from which one has a panoramic view of the lake and coast. It's accessible by bus. Worth certainly a visit ****
  • The building's design and location really nice. The temporary exhibition is buried, the hill overlooking the Lake, partly in sapa. Terrace is a marvelous. But my very bad when I came to coincide with the exhibition. 5chf from me, even though I wrote the entry 8chf in the brochure. I don't know if her renovation was in the building. The Café, self service coffee for free. I need to go see if it falls in an exhibition to look well in advance.

Where to stay in Neuchatel

A visit to the city of Neuchâtel is well-spent lakefront to take full advantage of the panoramic views. Here you'll find a handful of comfortable, moderately priced hotels. The majority of the accommodations are either downtown or close to the train station. In the downtown area visitors can appreciate the broad streets lined with neo-Romanesque sandstone buildings, while still within walking distance to the city's famed absinthe distilleries. Offerings for budget hostels and guesthouses can be slim. High-end five-star hotels and international chains can be found along the water's edge.
