Reichenbach Falls, Meiringen

4.4
#2 of 6 in Things to do in Meiringen
Waterfall · Nature / Park
Best known as the site of Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty's final clash, Reichenbach Falls attracts fans of the Sherlock fiction series from all over the world. However, with a combined drop of 250 m (820 ft) and picturesque alpine setting, this spectacular series of waterfalls has a broad appeal. A scenic funicular ride makes the site easy to access, located just a short walk from the Reichenbachfall station. At their fullest, the waterfalls can produce a considerable spray, so be sure to wear shoes with good grip and bring a waterproof jacket. • Great funicular railway and some good treks up top. Make sure you go to the left hand side of the falls to the ledge where Sherlock and Moriarty fall.  more »

  • Fantastic and mysterious place... Especially if you’re a fan of the Mr. Sherlock Holmes. But be careful, you should have good condition and breathing, somewhere you’ll climb... :)))
  • The place of pilgrimage of every Conan Doyle fan. The waterfall itself is also very impressive. You cannot see the whole waterfall at once. You are coming up with the trail and it reveals more and more. Parking at the funicular station is free. We enjoyed it very much.
  • Make sure to bring waterproof clothing with you! You're going to get wet. If you're a Sherlock Holmes fan and passing nearby, you have no excuse not to stop, take the short funicular trip up the mountain, and complete your pilgrimage to the falls.
  • One of the most famous places used in fiction. After using the funicular with a couple of previous visits, we took the path up towards Rosenlaui on which Sherlock Holmes encountered Professor Moriarty. Gained a far better sense of why Conan Doyle chose the location
  • The cable car is the better experience up to the falls. Be aware you can only pay by cash.
