4.6/5 based on 3,200+ reviews on the web
See Europe's oldest covered footbridge and view the collection of paintings depicting various scenes from Lucerne's rich history at Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrucke). An age-old bridge spanning the calm waters of the Reuss River, the 14th-century wooden structure once formed part of a defense system built to protect the city from possible enemy invasions. As you walk across it, look up to see the paintings on the interior triangular frames, added in the 17th century. Next to the bridge stands a 40 m (140 ft) tall octagonal tower, formerly a prison and torture chamber. Don't forget to bring your camera: the bridge and its tower count among Switzerland's most photographed historic monuments, drawing architecture buffs from distant corners of the world. • Even if one was already x-time in Lucerne and the chapel bridge is gone, you must do it again. Beautiful design and wonderful summer flowers.

  • Built in 1333. Named after nearby St. Peter's Church. 8/18/1993, in a suspicious fire burned most bridges, has lost two-thirds of painting was in. There were 147-picture 158 photos in front of the fire in the. It was only 30 47 piece was renovated after the fire, but was completely restored. So has left marks everywhere now. A real pity. The bridge is surrounded by flowers, is a fairy tale. Picture is they want to take a lot of tourists, pretty pictures of themselves too.

  • The bridge was lit up and we took time to admire the beauty. This is real history and learned a lot about its history.
  • Whenever in Lucern Switzerland, this bridge is a compulsory visit. Matter a fact it's the best bridge to cross over from the Old Town to the Lucern Main Train Station and the KKKL. With murals above you as you walk across the river, it is a none stop selfie excitement. Don't forget to spot some historical inscribed plaque that also mention the exact spot where once a fire broke out and burnt the bridge. Spend as long as you will, walk as many times as you wish and click as much as you desire, each snap will definitely be a memorabilia over time.
  • A must stop when visiting Luzern. The bridge has a lot of history and great views of the city. Everything at the little gift shop can be found at any of the other shops around town.
  • One of the most beautiful scenery points in Luzern. I totally fall in love with all of the city as soon as I get out of the main train station. However, the Chapel Bridge was very special for me. Sometimes they host kind of a small bazaar at the end of the bridge. Must see!
  • Nice and worth a visit Shame about the hordes of hawking and spitting mainland chinese
  • Our bridge of interest in lucerne, when you're in lucerne you'll have to see this bridge! In carnival the paintings are replaced with clown and carnival paintings!
