  • This is a panorama view of the culture of the Franco-Prussian War of 1871 when over 80,000 French soldiers surrender and were offered asylum in Switzerland! It was very moving! Cost is $12CHF per adul...  more »

  • It's a really good place that shows the time of war. But quite expensive for what that is. I liked it but thought it was too small
  • There is a 360 degree artwork (painting plus objects) depicting the defeated Swiss Army returning. I found the effect realistic and touching. The eye for detail and the three dimensional effect is remarkable. There is a plaque which states that Holder (a famous Swiss artist) was not looking forward to being part of the team that created this work, but he should be happy with the result!
  • In these days of 3d virtual realities when ancient battles can be brought back to life through computer graphics a still panorama feels a little anachronistic. On the other hand it is a giant one and you get a sound accompaniment with a narrative that explains what you see. Additionally you can rent mobile devices with earphones to dig even deeper in the historical facts.
  • Nice 360 degree painting of the Bourbaki event (1871) clear explanation from the tourguide on what happened.
  • Got tickets as a part of a packsgr with tickets to the Glacier museum. My second favorite exhibit in the area (Glacier museum, Bourbaki Panorama, Lion monument). A historical event I knew very little about (USA nationality) and found very interesting. Also the sheer size of the painting and model integration is very impressive. I recommend listening to the explanation of the event/painting which can be found in English.

Where to stay in Lucerne

Small, historical Lucerne is big in its accommodation offerings. Surrounding the bay are plenty of mid-range and upscale hotels for those looking to splurge, putting you right downtown with easy access to sights, bars, and restaurants. If your budget is tight, look into the handful of guesthouses in the city. There are limited hostels available, and they tend to be a bit farther from the city core. Be sure to book in advance to avoid missing out.
