Staubbach Fall, Lauterbrunnen

4.4
#3 of 8 in Things to do in Lauterbrunnen
Rumored to have been the inspiration for Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's poem, "Song of the Spirits over the Waters," Staubbach Fall stands nearly 300 m (984 ft) tall. The second-highest waterfall in the country, it is known for the spray of water in every direction due to the winds in the area. Walk the path up to the waterfall and go behind it for a view of the entire valley through the falls. Information boards offer the historical and scientific background of the area. Be sure to wear appropriate gear, as mist from the fall spreads far, and watch your step on the slippery paths. Make Staubbach Fall a centerpiece of your Lauterbrunnen vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Lauterbrunnen vacation planning website .

  • This is the first large waterfalls that can be seen in the Valley, a high waterfall, beside the town. You can climb through the rock, until almost the half of the height of the wall, to look out over the Valley from behind the waterfall. Access is free, precipitous but worthwhile. Half of the journey is a road, the other half staircase. Within the "Grotto" and the waterfall, it is very cool, and you can get wet (according to the flow). Overlooking the Valley, the people, are very beautiful, it is worth climbing. On the right you can see the snow-capped peaks of the Jungfrau
