#1 of 7 in Things to do in Gruyeres
Set the clock back a few centuries with a visit to Castle of Gruyeres, situated in the verdant countryside against the backdrop of western Switzerland's majestic mountains. Constructed in the 13th century, the castle served as home to a long succession of local counts, who controlled this region from the 11th to the 16th centuries. Converted into a museum in 1938, the turreted castle houses a large collection of tapestries, paintings, and period furniture, allowing visitors to discover eight centuries of the region's artistic and cultural heritage. Watch the short multimedia film about the history of the castle and explore the footpaths winding their way around the property. Purchase tickets upon entrance; consider a combined ticket that gets you access to one of the nearby museums. Guided visits of the castle are available at an extra cost. Put Castle of Gruyeres into our Gruyeres tour planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Each pass in Gruyere is a mandatory by the Castle. Children are always happy to take a look. The garden of the castle is sublime. The staff very friendly also. The exhibition was very good.

Great Castle, the visit is very well done, you have to follow the numbered rooms and with the prospectus read the information. The castle is beautiful, we're back in the middle age. I go back regularly I don't tire of it. The + room reserved for temporary exhibitions, free admission (qd vs take the entrance to the Castle you have access to these exhibits supplement ss)

An interior authentic with furniture and paintings of time where very well fit an exhibition. Do not forget the path of the ramparts which offers a magnificent view on a wonderfully well maintained garden. Remarkable views of the entire region from the Castle Park. Do not hesitate to visit everything.

  • This is a nice little castle up at Gruyère. A must visit place if you are in the town for a day trip. If you have a Swiss Pass you get free entry. They have a nice Audio-visual presentation about the castle which is worth watching.
  • Very beautiful remade castle. You can book guided tours or just wander around the halls. You can buy a combined ticked with the gruyere cheese factory in the lower village. The castle has some very impressive points of view on the sourrindobg mountains and hills.
  • Magical fortress on top of a small hill with classic Swiss cuisine topped with an Alien museum and bar. Perfect for a date or family visit.
  • The village of gruyére is both beautiful and typical, and so is the castle. Go around the castle to get a view from below and then go inside to learn everything about its history.
  • Beautiful view of the mountains. I would suggest this place to landscape photographers and aerial drone shoots.
