Faulhorn, Grindelwald

4.6
Hike to the rounded peak of Faulhorn and admire the rugged scenery of the snowcapped Bernese Alps. Several trails wind their way to the 2,681 m (8,796 ft) summit. At the top, take in sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Thurne below. Stop in the well-known hotel at the summit, where you can reward yourself with a fortifying meal. The ascent requires a decent level of fitness, but the well-preserved trail won't present any great challenge to experienced hikers. • Along the Schynige Platte is the climb to the Faulhorn best spicy but via First (if you first with the eggs comes from Grindelwald) you have a stiff climb ahead, but about a particularly easy and wide (and therefore a bit boring) way. Along this side also most hikers come by, although it remains gros hang on the Lake half way through. The view on the platform behind the hut is spectacular. We have in the region had quite a few tops and cabins done over the years, but this is one of, if not the most beautiful view. The hut itself offers the usual drinks and a limited card with clean dishes. You are less in the atmosphere of a remote cabin than in that of a terrace at the market, what the control is concerned. Everything is now too expensive in Switzerland, but here you still get value for the money.

  • A dust of snow was covered the trails, but it was still easy to walk without crampons. Bring hiking sticks with you. It is absolutely worth it to check! One of the best Switzerland trails you can experience and also it is not too demanding by novices as well. Those pics were taken on 17. Sept 2017. Have a pleasant trip!
  • It takes some time to reach it, but the way to the Faulhorn and the Faulhorn itself offer spectacular views. Absolutely worth the effort!
  • Classics in the Oberland mountain hiking tours.

Where to stay in Grindelwald

In the resort town of Grindelwald, the main street is dotted with mid-range hotels where you can rest after a long day of skiing and shopping. For ease of convenience, opt to stay closer to the city's one train station. Wander a bit off the main road to find a handful of hostels, guesthouses, and bed and breakfasts--though be warned that their rates are similar to the hotels in town. If you feel so inclined, indulge at one of the upscale hotels for a luxurious stay in this glacier town.
