Site archéologique de la Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Genève, Geneva

(4.4/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Discover the rich history behind one of Geneva's most prominent churches at Site archéologique de la Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Genève. Construction works carried out in the 1980s accidently uncovered a plethora of ancient artifacts at this site, dating as far back as the Roman Empire. These have been carefully examined and curated to provide visitors with a remarkable insight into the city's history and the past of this important building. Witness remnants of the basilica that once stood here, including the Roman crypt, monk's cells, and allobrogian tomb. For a more in-depth tour, pick up one of the audio headsets at the cathedral's entrance. • A Museum in the basement of the St. Pierre Cathedral in Geneva. Cathedral seen from the West and party non Temple look like the entrance is to the right. There is a beautiful entry of feeling down all the way, and far from the ruins. Was waste the here pay the admission fee and pass through the gate, old part of the Cathedral has been excavated and are on display. Church, so interesting and Church structure remains underground cemeteries and small arched doorways, stairs, etc. Quite widely, took 3-12, quick look.

  • The history of the Cathedral Hill is told (headphones) throughout its history, since the time of the first inhabitants to the present day. Walkways let you access the most ancient vestiges. We could spend hours and hours.

  • Very well-designed exhibit, with interactive screens, short films, and information panels that are color-coded by century! However, I don't believe that it's worth 8.00 CHF for an adult ticket -- if you have a Geneva Museum Pass, however, and really enjoy archeological digs, definitely check out this wealth of information.
