Religious Site Tourist Spot
Uncover the sacred treasures of Russian Orthodox Church Of Geneva, the city's Russian Orthodox Church. The ambitious building project was funded by the Russian Grand Duchess Anna Fyodorovna, who resided in Switzerland for many years. Since its completion in 1866 the building has served as an important spiritual landmark and community hub for the city's Russian population. Its classic Byzantine features, such as gold onion domes, differ distinctly from traditional Swiss churches. Go inside to discover brightly colored ceilings, elaborate icons, and heady incense, matching the grandeur of the building's imposing facade. Church services are open to all. To visit Russian Orthodox Church Of Geneva on your holiday in Geneva, and find out what else Geneva has to offer, use our Geneva itinerary maker.

Where to stay in Geneva

In the elegant city of Geneva, a little shuteye doesn't come cheap. A number of relatively expensive hotels surround the lakefront, a prime location for visitors here; note that these tend to fill up for conferences and trade shows, so plan accordingly. More budget-minded travelers can look into options closer to the airport, which is a quick 15-minute ride on public transport into the city. While there a very few family-owned guesthouses and hotels, there are a handful of hostels--though these too are priced pretty steep. You can also find more affordable options in the outlying cities of Annemasse and Gaillard.

  • Its under renovation so quite hard to get a good idea of its orignal look
  • A lot smaller than it is from outside. The ornate interior was very interesting and people from Russian descent still gather here to pray. Beware of people just outside the church dressed in traditional Russian clothing asking for money. They are quite persistent.
  • When you first arrive in front you think "oh this is small" but then you enter look at the decoration, the interior and you think "oh this is awesome". I absolutely loved visiting the church even though there is not a lot of seating. Note: I coudln't really appreciate the exterior architecture as they are imrpoving/rebuilding part of the Church.
