Titlis Bridge, Engelberg

4.7
Titlis is a mountain of the Uri Alps, located on the border between the cantons of Obwalden and Berne. At above sea level, it is the highest summit of the range north of the Susten Pass, between the Bernese Oberland and Central Switzerland. It is mainly accessed from Engelberg (Obwalden) on the north side and is famous as the site of the world's first rotating cable car. The cable car system connects Engelberg (996m) to the summit of Klein Titlis (3028m) through the three stages of Gerschnialp (1262m), Trübsee (1796m) and Stand (2428m).The last part of cable car way leads above the glacier. At Klein Titlis, it is possible to visit an illuminated glacier cave from an entrance within the cable-car station, which also includes shops and restaurants. The Titlis Cliff Walk, the highest elevation suspension bridge in Europe, opened in December 2012, giving views across the Alps.GeographyTitlis straddles the border between Obwalden and Berne. The main summit of Titlis (sometimes distinguished by the name Gross Titlis) and Klein Titlis are both located between the municipalities of Engelberg on the north and Gadmen on the south. The Titlis massif is also partially located in Nidwalden, where the highest point of that canton is found: the Rotstöckli (2,901 m). Titlis itself is the highest point in Obwalden and in the valley of Engelberg. East of Titlis is the Grassen, where the borders between the cantons of Obwalden, Berne and Uri converge. The geographical centre of Switzerland is situated about 15 kilometers west of the mountain.

  • Crossing the suspension bridge's not so exciting again. The shaking holds strong in borders. There's more adventurous suspension bridges in Switzerland. The worth is certainly the views of the mountains. It is well worth a trip

  • We were lucky, we had a fantastic view over hundreds of kilometres across the Alps on the 8 March 2018. Terrific. The cliff walk itself is not so big thrills for people with no fear of heights.

  • This bridge is a fun and family friendly way to snap some shots of the beautiful views Mount Titlis has to offer. This isn’t exactly a thrilling experience for the average down-hill skier as the bridg...  more »

  • I loved Titlis! I loved the fact that I didn't wait for the lift more than 3 seconds and the lifts were super fast and marked with different countries flags. The slopes were perfect and for all levels! They have also for beginners (the lady at the touristic center told us that they don't, but actually they do). Also, they have a rental center at the first stop too and also there is easier to find an instructor if needed. The blue slope is huge!! Took me more than one hour to get at the bottom of it. At the second stop they have a beautiful chalet where you can have a hot cup of red wine and enjoy the amazing view. Very well organized place, clean with great views and amazing slopes!
  • Awesome experience! I signed up for the beginners' ski lesson and it was great. The staff was very helpful. The cable car offered amazing views going up and down. The bars up there offered drinks at a very reasonable price. Highly recommend.
  • Mere words won't be able to describe this wonder. It is an absolute beauty. Every person should visit the place once in a lifetime. The snow, sun, rain and every aspect here is a treat to the eyes and mind. Cable car is provided to reach atop the mountain. And then its completely ice and snow. The shops here are also very attractive. The best I have ever been.
  • Absolutely beautiful.... Swiss Alps at its best....you go up with the help of a series of cable cars.... the last one has a rotating deck for 360 degree view... get your portrait done at the top ...and ride the ice flyer
  • A typical and beautiful snow clad mountains of Alps in Switzerland. This scenic beauty has a cable car facility, which is well run with a number of cars. The mountain-top restaurant is well stocked and well maintained. A must visit for any traveller to Switzerland.
