  • Ideal for a little trip, when they are in upper Bailey. We have eien grandchild card and therefore any number of times with our grandchildren could down. Avoid them if it can possible extended weekends - very many people have and then the fun goes by very quickly

  • I loved Ballenberg. Is like stepping into the past in the Swiss customs. Are accurate and detailed reconstructions: the mansion at the bakery, from rags to kitchens. Beautiful. Wouldn't stay again.

  • What a wonderful day we had! You walk in nature for a whole day and discover some old original homes that come from all cantons. In addition, you will have the chance to see different craftsmen (for example the Baker) in the middle. We have the opportunity to buy flour made in a small mill by a very nice man. Almost all speak good french. The landscape are superb. Plan of good shoes and don't be afraid to walk!

  • This place is fantastic! it gives one a really nice impression how it was to live in the region that we now call Switzerland, with beautiful and simple architecture and local food. i highly recommend this place, especially when the weather isnt stable as it is easy to just quickly pop into on of the many buildings scattered on the location
  • Loads of exploring to do and curiosities to discover. Most live demonstrations end before noon so plan accordingly. You should save at least a whole morning for this trip. Staff can be pretty engaging. Demonstrations change depending on the day of the week. As the name says, it's out in the open, like a village/s to explore. The map says it takes around 30 minutes to walk from one end to the other without stops, that sounds about right.
  • It's a very large Open-Air Museum. You can easily spend two days here. That's why there are two entrances. There is a large variety of structures from most of the Cantons of Switzerland. In a lot of structures there are examples of traditional jobs, e.g. people making pottery, making cheese, etc. Every building has signs explaining how old it is, why it was build, fun facts, etc. Very entertaining!
  • This place is amazing to view Swiss history, you almost feel as if you were back in another time. Beware of the slopes and go with enough time, we spent 5 hours there and didn't see it all. It was totally worth the trip
  • I have many fond memories from touring Ballenberg as a child. Loving history as much as I do, I was fascinated by the stories that were told, the demonstrations that were made, and the overall educational quality of the experience. The different buildings are spaced out wonderfully, allowing a leisurely stroll through the property and various trails. Due to the wooded location, you almost forget what era you're in until you hear a plane fly overhead. I look forward to going back again during my next trip to Switzerland.
