  • What a great and unforgettable experience ! This is a not to be missed fantastic attraction going back to the old days and experience the way of living then... I would believe that this is globally a ...  more »
  • In a beautiful environment, typical habitats are scattered with pleasant paths; workshops (weaving, smithy, mill, etc.) are driven by a staff very friendly including in two hostels. In the meadows, a procession of pets, showing the characteristic species of the terroir. The dimensions of the site do that at any time we feel the feeling of being in a crowd.

  • Of its kind, is one of the most beautiful and interesting things I've ever seen. A representation of rural Switzerland on a very large territory and to discover. A return to the past to learn about the world and the traditions of the past. Everything is taken care of in every detail, from the smallest details to larger buildings. I have been there when I was pregnant, but I will be back with my daughter soon will be bigger because it is really worth it. If you are in the area, go for it absolutely and try to attend demonstrations (i.e. baking bread, making cheese, ...) and do not rush. We have visited all but stayed inside the Park throughout the day.

  • This place is fantastic! it gives one a really nice impression how it was to live in the region that we now call Switzerland, with beautiful and simple architecture and local food. i highly recommend this place, especially when the weather isnt stable as it is easy to just quickly pop into on of the many buildings scattered on the location
  • Loads of exploring to do and curiosities to discover. Most live demonstrations end before noon so plan accordingly. You should save at least a whole morning for this trip. Staff can be pretty engaging. Demonstrations change depending on the day of the week. As the name says, it's out in the open, like a village/s to explore. The map says it takes around 30 minutes to walk from one end to the other without stops, that sounds about right.
  • It's a very large Open-Air Museum. You can easily spend two days here. That's why there are two entrances. There is a large variety of structures from most of the Cantons of Switzerland. In a lot of structures there are examples of traditional jobs, e.g. people making pottery, making cheese, etc. Every building has signs explaining how old it is, why it was build, fun facts, etc. Very entertaining!
  • This place is amazing to view Swiss history, you almost feel as if you were back in another time. Beware of the slopes and go with enough time, we spent 5 hours there and didn't see it all. It was totally worth the trip
  • I have many fond memories from touring Ballenberg as a child. Loving history as much as I do, I was fascinated by the stories that were told, the demonstrations that were made, and the overall educational quality of the experience. The different buildings are spaced out wonderfully, allowing a leisurely stroll through the property and various trails. Due to the wooded location, you almost forget what era you're in until you hear a plane fly overhead. I look forward to going back again during my next trip to Switzerland.
