Rose Garden (Rosengarten), Bern

4.6
#1 of 9 in Parks in Bern
To see and learn about hundreds of different rose varieties in a tranquil setting, head to Rose Garden (Rosengarten), situated on a hilltop overlooking the capital city's medieval Old Town. A public park since 1913, this site served as a cemetery in the 19th century. Today, the manicured lawns and formal gardens draw both visiting tourists and picnicking locals. In addition to roses, the neat flowerbeds display 30 different types of rhododendrons and 200 kinds of irises. Take a stroll along the footpaths to see the rose varieties named after Ingrid Bergman, Maria Callas, Christopher Columbus, and Cleopatra. Walk here from the Old Town, or take the public bus from the city's main train station. Plan a trip to Bern easily and quickly by telling Inspirock to suggest an itinerary.

  • It is a beautiful garden and has a beautiful view of the city! There's a café and several children playing. Good Sunday drive

  • Probably the best view point of Bern’s old town. It’s a must see especially in spring when all roses start to bloom.  more »

  • What a lovely area to visit, and walk among the beautiful plants. It is home to 223 rose, 200 iris, and 28 rhododendron varieties, and has a great view of the city of Bern. There is a restaurant and graveled pathways to stroll and relax. There is a playground for children, restrooms, areas to picnic, and there is no admission. Wear comfortable shoes since the walkways are not paved and the grass can be uneven. On sunny pleasant days, expect to be joined by lots of other folk.
  • The view over the city is one of a kind, no matter which season of the year. Simply stunning and an experience to itself. The restaurant and its patio was recently nicely refurbished and an extra effort in creating a welcoming and modern setting was made. Unfortunately, this is not true for the restaurant at the premises. Staff is not very polite and waiting times are long. I recommend to bring your picnic along which is a great alternative and saves you the hazzle with the restaurant. I strongly recommend for such a frequented place to hire more staff to reduce waiting times and improve service.
  • watch the entire heritage city from the top. the river, the glorious monumental buildings of the old city, the bridge. the garden it's self is small but beautiful. Bern is fantastic and best viewed from this garden
  • We visited the park in winter time. So there were no roses. However, the panoramic view that is given by the location of the park where you can see all Bern is so breathtaking
  • very beautiful views of Bern City! Amazing sunsets 🌇
