Rose Garden (Rosengarten), Bern
(4.5/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web)
To see and learn about hundreds of different rose varieties in a tranquil setting, head to Rose Garden (Rosengarten), situated on a hilltop overlooking the capital city's medieval Old Town. A public park since 1913, this site served as a cemetery in the 19th century. Today, the manicured lawns and formal gardens draw both visiting tourists and picnicking locals. In addition to roses, the neat flowerbeds display 30 different types of rhododendrons and 200 kinds of irises. Take a stroll along the footpaths to see the rose varieties named after Ingrid Bergman, Maria Callas, Christopher Columbus, and Cleopatra. Walk here from the Old Town, or take the public bus from the city's main train station. Our Bern trip builder makes visiting Rose Garden (Rosengarten) and other Bern attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Rose garden. Several of them--of all colors, perfumes and colors you can imagine. I was in the fall, some were already dying. Must be great in the spring.

  • Very relaxing! Actually didn't see many roses in the late autumn but a great place to see Old Town Bern. Visit before noon so that you can take good photos without shadow. Then have an easy lunch on t...  more »
  • One of our favourite places, if we want to take a leisurely stroll on Sunday. Crowded in the summer. The best time is in the fall.
