Garden Nature / Park
To see and learn about hundreds of different rose varieties in a tranquil setting, head to Rose Garden (Rosengarten), situated on a hilltop overlooking the capital city's medieval Old Town. A public park since 1913, this site served as a cemetery in the 19th century. Today, the manicured lawns and formal gardens draw both visiting tourists and picnicking locals. In addition to roses, the neat flowerbeds display 30 different types of rhododendrons and 200 kinds of irises. Take a stroll along the footpaths to see the rose varieties named after Ingrid Bergman, Maria Callas, Christopher Columbus, and Cleopatra. Walk here from the Old Town, or take the public bus from the city's main train station. Our Bern trip builder makes visiting Rose Garden (Rosengarten) and other Bern attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Very nicely maintained garden with a children play area. The view of Bern old town from this place is awesome. Good place to sit and watch the Bern city. This place also has a good restaurant. One side of the restaurant has a lovely view of the city. This place can be reached by public transport very easily.
  • A must visit if looking for awesome views of Bern. A walk from Central Bern to the Rose Garden was 20-30 minutes. Certainly worth the walk with attractions along the way.

  • Wonderful view over the old town of bern, plenty of space to sit and enjoy the view, the parking however is not available, you should find a place around it
  • Amazing spot at sunset with a beautiful view of the city. Very romantic if you are looking for nice stop. Not so quiet on the weekends though the location can become busy

Where to stay in Bern

In historic Bern, the bulk of the accommodation offerings are confined to the peninsula, where the Old Town or "Altstadt" is located. Staying here gives you the convenience of being within walking distance to everything--which will come in handy in this generally car-free area. Throughout the Old Town you'll find a number of mid-range three-star hotels complete with their original 19th-century characteristics. A couple hostels and pensions round out the options here, though these tend to be a bit more expensive than one might expect. Outside of the Old Town, there are a few hotels with cheaper rates, though you compromise on convenience and atmosphere. The city also boasts a few stunning four- and five-star hotels, should your budget be forgiving.
