Bern Historical Museum, Bern
Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
Get a sense of the capital city's long history in a broader world context at Bern Historical Museum. The second largest historical museum in Switzerland, it houses 500,000 artifacts from the Stone Age up to modern day. The building housing the relics is itself an attraction: built in 1894, it was inspired by 15th- and 16th-century Swiss castles. The incorporated Einstein Museum tells the story of the famous scientist who developed his Theory of Relativity while living in the city. Stop for a coffee and pastry at the on-site bistro or bring a picnic to enjoy in the museum's park. Make sure to go all the way up the top of the Einstein Museum for superb views of Bern and the Alps.
