  • The Spalentor is one of those historic places in Basel which you have to see. Recently refurbished it shines in new splendour.

  • The Spalentor or Spalentor door is a medieval Gate located in Basel. It is a remnant of the old fortifications surrounding the city and is one of the most beautiful monumental gates of the country. Of the seven gates of the existing outside wall then, only three remain. They are part of the Swiss inventory of cultural property of national significance. On the outside to the city, the walls have a thickness of two metres to 1.60 meters inside. Two massive harrows protected the passage. Nowadays, they are accessible by pedestrians. The original of the Tower entrance was a low door, protected by the drawbridge. Two round towers, of 28,15 meters of height, flank the square tower that rises 40,30 m

  • Nice street view when you get there. Very quiet. Found it out while l was walking around. Worth for a visit

  • Although this building is not in the real "centre" of the old town it is definitely worth the walk.
  • Beautiful gate leading right into Basel's Old Town.
  • I really like the decorated roof of this historic building
  • Was restored during 2015. Now it shines again.
  • A historic landmark located close to the local university and its botanical gardens. Should definitely be on your bucket list if you want to get a full impression of Basle.
