The Music Museum of the Basel History Museum in the former Lohnhof prison houses Switzerland’s largest collection of musical instruments.The Music Museum is a heritage site of national significance. It was opened in 2000 and presents five centuries of music history with three areas of emphasis: 650 instruments from the 16th to 20th Centuries; concerts, choral music and dance; parades, festivals and signals. Here you can see almost seven hundred different musical instruments, which were used for making music for five centuries. The exhibits are housed in the former 24 prison cells on three floors. In the Museum there are on-screen interactive program by choosing from more than 200 music samples, you can get an idea of sounding instruments. The Museum is open from Wednesday to Saturday and the entrance to it is worth 12 francs.show original
