  • Richard Serra's contemporary video media was quite difficult for me to grasp, however the museum has a fabulous rooftop terrace with spectacular city & river views.  more »
  • Having seen a number of museums of contemporary art, I would classify that one at the bottom of the ranking... But, according to temporary exhibitions, reviews will be shared maybe...

  • Great collections. However, 2 of the 4 floors were closed at the time of our visit. No photos allowed inside.
  • Incredibly strange museum, not the best exhibits, very eerie atmosphere, made for an interesting experience but a little bit too weird in my opinion
  • Will soon (April 2016) move to it's new building near the Kunstmuseum, we'll see how they'll utilize this building afterwards... Until then admittance is free and it's totally worth a visit (though relatively small).
  • Not much to see in the permanent collection, and the temporary exhibitions didn't do much for me. Probably not worth the admission price unless you are particularly interested in the temporary exhibitions.

Where to stay in Basel

Business-oriented Basel offers an overwhelming amount of mid-range hotels catering to its business clientele. The city fills up during conferences and events, so be sure to plan accordingly. There are a number of guesthouses and bed and breakfasts too, but they tend to be pretty pricey. You'll find a handful of budget-friendly hostels just south of the city core. Keep in mind that as you move toward the outskirts of town for affordable accommodation, proximity to the train stations will be key. The good news is that a number of the hotels include public transport passes with the cost of a room.
