Ales Stenar, Ystad
(4.4/5 based on 400+ reviews on the web)
See the colossal stones that form one of the most impressive monuments of ancient Nordic culture at Ales Stenar. Known as the Stonehenge of Sweden, the monument stands on the Skane coast in the south side of the country. The site features 59 large boulders arranged in a ship-like formation. The stones at the front and in the back are larger than the others, clearly representing the bow and stern of a ship. The monument dates back to the early Middle Ages, even before the time when Vikings ruled the waves of northern Europe. The tranquil fields, hiking trails, and sea views surrounding the monument offer a great setting for a day outdoors. The sight has its own parking area. • Here is one to get if you are in Sweden. Nice little restaurants and shops below the Hill. When you come up the long ascent, it's a small walk with great views of the sea. Fun to go past grazing cows and see the meadows around.

  • Fascinating stone 'ship' on headland close to Ystad. Two information boards nearby contradict each other about its age.
  • A beautiful place that is always world to visit. Sea views are fantastic, and in the summer you can go swimming at the beach.

  • A very unique set of stones placed on a hill outside a small harbour in southern Sweden. The monument is formed as a ship pointing towards winter and summer solstice. The monument is about 15 minutes walk from the nearest parking lot.
  • Nice historical place. Nice view of Baltic
  • Nice area at the sea, the stones are ok, certainly not comparable with Hengestone ;) In any case, dont miss out to go to the harbour, there are a lots of fish restaurants!
  • Fantastic views and an equally fantastic stone ship. You can bring a picnic up here and stay a whole day. Spectacular sunsets.
  • Mini Stonehenge. Beautiful views
