Ales Stenar, Ystad

Landmark Tourist Spot
See the colossal stones that form one of the most impressive monuments of ancient Nordic culture at Ales Stenar. Known as the Stonehenge of Sweden, the monument stands on the Skane coast in the south side of the country. The site features 59 large boulders arranged in a ship-like formation. The stones at the front and in the back are larger than the others, clearly representing the bow and stern of a ship. The monument dates back to the early Middle Ages, even before the time when Vikings ruled the waves of northern Europe. The tranquil fields, hiking trails, and sea views surrounding the monument offer a great setting for a day outdoors. The sight has its own parking area. • We visited this marvellous place, it's a Grave built between 500 - 1000 years A. C. It's a miracle how it was built in that time. There are 59 erected stones, placed like a ship. It's about 50 meters ...  more »
  • The place is beautiful with a great view to the Baltic Sea. The stones are impressive but unfortunately there is no real understanding of what it is. But it is definite worth a visit  more »
  • A short walk up the hill and the old sundial and atrological monument rises by the cliffs near the sea. Great experience.  more »

  • An old ship shaped stone arrangement... Good activity on a sunny day.. usually windy and gets cold if you don't have proper clothes.. nice harbor closer by with cafes
  • This is a historical heritage, not a playground for kids from parents who don't even teach them what this is and what respect is! Children jumping on it and playing games in it is not the way how the few heritages of our ancestors should be treaten. And also you are not able to take any good photo of it because of this. Build a fence around it or at least more information shields about what this is, and how it should be treaten.
  • an old historic site...at a lovely location....neae a small Fisher community.. it is a must visit if you are around the area... great to be visited on a sunny day. resutraunts are nearby which serve great seafood...in season boats are docked ...be sure to visit before 4 pm....closes early ...
  • Marvellous, nice path (might be a bit harsh for elderly people though), breath taking place and view over the sea.
  • Very nice and relaxing place. Recommend for tourists.
