Ales Stenar, Ystad

(4.4/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
See the colossal stones that form one of the most impressive monuments of ancient Nordic culture at Ales Stenar. Known as the Stonehenge of Sweden, the monument stands on the Skane coast in the south side of the country. The site features 59 large boulders arranged in a ship-like formation. The stones at the front and in the back are larger than the others, clearly representing the bow and stern of a ship. The monument dates back to the early Middle Ages, even before the time when Vikings ruled the waves of northern Europe. The tranquil fields, hiking trails, and sea views surrounding the monument offer a great setting for a day outdoors. The sight has its own parking area. • With 2 hours to the ferry return to the Polish, I went there for a while reading reviews on tripadvisor.com. I wanted to see the Swedish Stonehenge. The same boulders do not make up such a great experience but the views from here are really amazing. The boulders are relatively low as about 140-180 cm in addition to one on the bow and one aft that are above 2 meters for sure. some 100 metres to the sea are the slope-I do not know whether this is the dead sea cliffs or just simply the slope but the small plateau on which are located the boulders is roughly 30 meters above sea level and the edge of a cliff about 20 feet above sea level so the view is a very interesting place interesting for a photo shoot but rather on a warm day and the more resource time. With a few minutes to shoot a 3-4 pics

  • Was down on Österlen Easter 2016, and then we made a visit here that we do not regret. After all the staircases and the walk up from the port, we got our reward, a wonderful view and a slightly magical place. Recommend to visit Ale's stones if you are nearby. When it came down again can you eat smoked fish in the harbour.

  • Maybe not the most exciting thing you can find on. But once in place, it has a nice view, and it is considered as a place to visit if you are passing.

  • A very unique set of stones placed on a hill outside a small harbour in southern Sweden. The monument is formed as a ship pointing towards winter and summer solstice. The monument is about 15 minutes walk from the nearest parking lot.
  • Nice historical place. Nice view of Baltic
  • Nice area at the sea, the stones are ok, certainly not comparable with Hengestone ;) In any case, dont miss out to go to the harbour, there are a lots of fish restaurants!
  • Fantastic views and an equally fantastic stone ship. You can bring a picnic up here and stay a whole day. Spectacular sunsets.
  • Mini Stonehenge. Beautiful views
