See the colossal stones that form one of the most impressive monuments of ancient Nordic culture at Ales Stenar. Known as the Stonehenge of Sweden, the monument stands on the Skane coast in the south side of the country. The site features 59 large boulders arranged in a ship-like formation. The stones at the front and in the back are larger than the others, clearly representing the bow and stern of a ship. The monument dates back to the early Middle Ages, even before the time when Vikings ruled the waves of northern Europe. The tranquil fields, hiking trails, and sea views surrounding the monument offer a great setting for a day outdoors. The sight has its own parking area. • Interesting settlement. Take your time to read the posters next to the Stones, so that you fully understand the history. Nice sorroundings. It’s situated next to a cosy harbour with several...  more »
  • You can go right up and touch the stones. There went many people there, but that might be due to the time of year and the cold, so that meant I was able to get some pics without anyone else in them...  more »
  • A nice view, surely worthy to take the trip and enjoy this heritage site. Beware, it is quite windy, so cloth yourself warm.  more »

  • Nice spot to visit. Enough history and a nice little town near the harbor for some snacks, lunch or dinner. Do not expect to be alone during the summer season ;-)
  • Nice place yo visit. I really like the view towards the sea and if you are lucky there are also people hang gliding from the cliff and can bring you along for a fee
  • Thought provoking, stunning position with wonderful views. Was little busy at time of visit which did detract somewhat, but overall well worth a visit if history/archeology is your thing
  • Nice place and very nicely documented in German and English. Very beautiful view over the Baltic Sea.
  • Very scenic place. Very interesting historic place. Bistro below has excellent fish plates. I tried theier fish & chips.
