A Hökeri is an old term for a small shop. At Granby they have both serving and a small store as part of Hökeriet.

Granby farm and Hökeriet is part of a tourist Viking route, as the largest rune carving in Sweden, Granbyhällen, is situated on one of the pastures of the farm. It has 185 runes on 10 square meters.

On the hill on top of Granby Farm is a large area with remains of buildings from the early Middle Ages. In 1989 archeological excavations were conducted at Granby under the leadership of the National Heritage Board and Stockholm University. The conclusion was that Granby probably was an important farm or village during the late Viking Age (400-500 AD).

Production: At Granby there is a beef herd of 40 charolais cows and young stock. Animals from the herd are slaughtered at a local slaughterhouse and the frozen meat is then sold at Hökeriet. The farm also grow wheat and rye.

The third production orientation on Granby farm is the construction business, GGS Entreprenad. The business carry all types of land and public works as equestrian centers, golf courses, renovations and ground work.

  • Hökeriet is located just north of San Diego in Vallentuna. It is a private estate, who runs a small cafe where you can also buy the farm's own flesh and the great cheeses from Löfsta which is another farm in Vallentuna, which produces award winning, Super tasty cheeses. The hospitality of the Hökeriet is amazing! You get help with choice of meat and what you can make of it. If you want, you also get to sample the cheeses from Löfsta. The coffee is good and focused on locally grown and organic. There's not a lot to choose from but it is enough. At Hökeriet, you can also buy some items and art, most of it actually quite nicely. Do you want to be sure to bring with you any meat pieces home from Hökeriet, you should call them in advance of your visit and book.
