  • The castle is at the Centre of the city of Vadstena on Lake Vattern and it is surrounded by a moat where there are moorings of tourist boats. The Castle part a walk along the Lake to the Vadstena Klosterlkyrka. The Vadstena Slott has impressive towers was built in the 16th century to difedendersi from attacks by the Danes. Crossing a bridge you enter the courtyard which gives access to the Museum and the State archives. The large courtyard is used for theatre performances and concerts.

  • We arrived to Vadstena during November evening and went to see the castle directly. One could not see much due to complete lack of light. Such a magnificent castle would look wonderful with lights on ...  more »
  • It is a massive Renaissance chateau on Lake Vättern, in the small town of Vadstena perhaps the finest in the area. Vadstena Castle was built in 1545 at the request of King Gustav Vasa as a defensive stronghold, a fortress to defend itself essentially by the Danes, but has evolved over time to become the beautiful Renaissance palace that today you can visit.

  • There isn't a lot of things or items that are displayed inside the castle. The museum is more about what each room has been used as and the history of the castle. Most of the tour/museum is made up of empty rooms. Because of this I feel the entrance fee of 90 SEK is too high.
  • Easy to walk through and enjoy.
  • Must see if you are in the area
  • Not much to see but the surroundings are really nice. Maybe I should have taken the guided tour.
  • Cozy with a castle in the middle of the city. Powerful lying in the Harbor, which is located in the moat.
