Church Tourist Spot
See the tallest cathedral in Scandinavia and admire the twin Gothic spires of Uppsala Domkyrka. Situated between Uppsala University and River Fyris, the cathedral stands nearly 122 m (400 ft) tall. You will recognize the 13th-century structure by its rose-hued exterior. Tour the site, originally designed by French architects in the French-Gothic style, and view its impressive features, including its treasury museum and chapels. Though the structure was damaged in a fire in the 18th century, the church today has been completed restored to its former glory. • Unbelievable historic treasure of Sweden. It is the largest church in Scandinavia and was completed in 1430s. Its three sphires rise to 119 metres high. It houses many relics and is a must see for all tourists. The building itself is a testament to the power of the church in Sweden and dominates the skyline in Uppsala. Very impressive Gothic architecture and an engineering marvel for a building whose construction began in the 1290s
  • Since it is the oldest medieval church in Sweden, we had our hopes raised and this church definitely delivered. We were amazed by the interiors. It's ornate and peaceful. It has beautiful paintings on the ceilings which was very unexpected and memorable. It is atleast 10 minutes walk from the Central station. It was closed from 11.30 to 12.30 when we visited on one Sunday for mass.
  • Fantastic old church in Uppsala. It is the oldest in the Nordic Region and the latest in Sweden. Very informative and well worth a visit.
  • Outstandingly beautiful cathedral, a very remarkable building. While not a member of the Swedish church enjoyed very much listening to its choir perform.
  • We hadn't intended to go here but a local friends convinced us, and it was really beautiful and unique. It's the first brick cathedral I've been in. The roof is beautiful, there are two organs and lots of graves. A sung worship service was in progress while we were there (in a side chapel) so we also had beautiful music to listen to.
