Uppsala Domkyrka, Uppsala
(4.4/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
See the tallest cathedral in Scandinavia and admire the twin Gothic spires of Uppsala Domkyrka. Situated between Uppsala University and River Fyris, the cathedral stands nearly 122 m (400 ft) tall. You will recognize the 13th-century structure by its rose-hued exterior. Tour the site, originally designed by French architects in the French-Gothic style, and view its impressive features, including its treasury museum and chapels. Though the structure was damaged in a fire in the 18th century, the church today has been completed restored to its former glory. • Reach of Uppsala is easy, especially if you flew into it. Rather, it will be the City, and from it to the Uppsala 20 minutes by train. From Stockholm-40 minutes. The Cathedral along with the University of Uppsala's main sites. See its spire 2 easy-it is the highest in Sweden-119 meters. The Cathedral was built on the site of the old church, which severed head to King Eric to the lawyer. After the construction of the Cathedral in 1273, Eric's remains moved there. Eric called a Legalist, because if it were ordered by the Swedish laws, although he only 4 years. And even Eric attends the coat of arms of Stockholm. Company Erik is-the founder of a dynasty of King Gustav Vasa, who came to power during the war of liberation against the Danes. Originally, by the way, the war went badly and just under Uppsala Swedish troops under the command of Sture, Jr. were defeated. Gustav is not left lying in the Cathedral one and put him in a sarcophagus of two wives. Not to missed. Sarcophagi of high artistic performance in contrast to modest crayfish Saint Erik. Rose well-being of Swedish Kings at the time. As befits good Cathedral in Sweden, Uppsala also burned. In the year 1702, maybe, against the backdrop of a brilliant victory over Peter the great at Narva. As a result, almost the entire interior of the burnt out and what we see already. Didn't care a damn in the middle ages (and in modern times too) people that will see tourists in the twenty-first century. In addition to Royal persons citizens of Uppsala decided to bury a person here who made the contribution, not only in the history of Sweden, but also in the whole world, Carolus Linnaeus. The same, which quietly proliknajut students around the world, when they teach classification of plants. And yet here he was buried Emmanuel Swedenborg is an excellent scientist, founder of Mineralogy and the physiology of the brain (agree very close). In addition indulged in another and geodesy, mathematics, chemistry, but in 56 years according to him survived the encounter with God. Encounter with God ended for mankind that a prominent scientist ran out, and a mystic, works which can read in Sweden now people 50 and Rector of the Cathedral. What a pity... Nathan is buried here, Sederbljum became a laureate of the Nobel Prize for half a year before his death, in the best traditions of the Nobel Committee. He, by the way, the funeral of Nobel Prize, but not at all for it. In addition to examining the highest Cathedral gravestones can still be see unusual sculpture 1968 year "tree of reconciliation" in honor of Council of churches here. And, of course, if you're lucky, you can listen to music. In the Cathedral up to 4 body. Largest organ of 1871 year installed Pen Ackermann, founder of profile organ company. Last, the Italian authority, set in 2009.
