  • This is the botanical garden where Carl Linnaeus made his study of Botany and zoology in mid-1700 and was its Director from 1728 to 1731. In this place he developed a new classification of the plant and animal world, defined binary nomenclature. Later as Professor at Uppsala University will publish its key works the SYSTEMA NATURAE (1735) and SPECIES PLANTARUM (1753). Today we are preserved between 3000-4000 species of plants and annexed there is the House in which he lived the scientist with his wife and children. Very interesting to visit the latter, as it describes the way of life of a college professor in mid 1700.

  • I have been there with colleagues for lunch The salad was amazing, very fresh and tasty One of the best I had in Sweden  more »
  • We ran through the garden. Definitely a well maintained facility with many different plants from all over the world. Walking around, it's quite alright, but more than half an hour I would now not there to spend. For plant lovers but worth a visit!

  • Another nice site in Uppsala is the botanical gardens, there is plenty to see and it is split over both sides of the road and you have the greenhouse and the cafe on one side and the big area facing the castle on the other. You can easily stroll for a couple of hours here and have a coffee in between.
  • Great for a walk around. Lots of diverse flora to admire.
  • Free entrance and the garden is oke. Nice to walk through.
  • I have been to lots of botanical gardens. This is by far the one with the least number of plants. The majority of the area is simply a classical garden. Of the few plants that are actually marked, most seemed to be newly planted and were very small.
  • Fantastic botanical garden and museum. Unsurprising perhaps, in the city of the guy that named plants in Latin; Carl von Linné. There was a cultural night when I was there where dancers with fire had a great performance. Free entrance for Uppsala students, extra plus.

Where to stay in Uppsala

University town Uppsala represents a relatively affordable Swedish destination. A number of hostels surround the city center, and proximity to the city center is key--the closer the better for exploring on foot all that the city has to offer. Many mid-range hotels ensure a comfortable stay at a reasonable cost, oftern with breakfast included. If luxury is more your style, look for the big chain hotels.
