Known for its gold room full of treasure and artifacts from the Viking age, The Swedish History Museum houses more than 10 million objects and works dating back to Mesolithic times. It aims to educate visitors about Sweden's archeological and cultural history. Though Bengt Romare and George Scherman designed the modern building in the 20th century, most of the artifacts on display are much older. Be sure to spend time viewing the gold and silver collection, Viking objects from World Heritage Site Birka, and famous Swedish artwork. The museum is really worth to visit. You can learn more about Swedish history and lifestyle, answer questions and listen to the unique stories. It's nice for adults as well as for children.
Being a history teacher, I really enjoyed this museum. It is well-worth a visit for families as well as adults. Admission is free and there are many things which children would also enjoy.

This museum is interesting for everyone who's interested in the history of sweden. It covers with great detail the viking period starting in the 5th-6th century via the medieval period until our time. The museum, similar to other museums in stockholm, is bilingual everywhere, which makes it equaly suitable for native people and international tourists.
Really nice museum about Sweden. I learned a lot just by walking around and taking my time to read the stories - helped me make connections to the history I learned at school. Originally I wanted to visit the Vasa museum (the ship) - but I didn't feel like waiting an hour to get in (and that was in October) - so I walked around and found the Swedish History museum. Lucky me ;)
Great museum. Very well thought out. Lgbt commentary is greatly integrated in exhibitions. It was one of the best experiences we had in a museum in a while. Great user experience. Really bravo.
Excellent exhibits and thoughful curative design a must for any visit to Stockholm
