Skeppsholmen, Stockholm

4.5
#4 of 14 in Nature in Stockholm
Though it was traditionally valued solely for its strategic location, Skeppsholmen today showcases a number of art museums and cultural events. Situated at the Baltic Sea entrance to Stockholm, the site reveals a number of older buildings from the island's days as a military center. Military presence on the island is scarce now, and the area is much more attractive to tourists for its art scene and green spaces. Here you can visit the Museum of Modern Art, Swedish Museum of Architecture, East-Asian Museum, and Teater Galeasen. Experience the island by going for a stroll, having a picnic, taking in views of the city's old town, or attending the popular Stockholm Jazz Festival. • Skeppsholmen hold several museum, and great areas for just a little R&R. More quiet than the bustling city centre and the old town, and really worth a visit. Dont miss the old ships and boats that can...  more »
  • This island is the middle of Stockholm and is a little OASIS! Originally home to the Navy, so are all of the original buildings remain, nothing over exploited week! Go across the bridge and watch the boats with their infoskyltar, in the lush greenery, bring in lugney!

  • It's a nice place-in the middle of Stockholm-and yet a bit isolated. There is a short distance to go from central locations in the city, and there are many things to see-among other things. Moderna Museet-which is really fine! Also remember to go over on Kastellholmen, where there is a nice view-and even more peace:-)

  • Great small and quiet island where we can go for a walk or just to breed and feel the nature. You can walk over the bridge or come by ferry. It's just a cool place to wander around. There is an informal boat museum along the wharf that is really interesting and completely free. Even if you are not interested boats, the small descriptions of the how each one has been restored and their history as a working or pleasure boat will grip you.
  • Quiet a lovely place in the heart of old city Stockholm!!
  • Nice and quiet. You can come and go by ferry
  • We enjoyed very much staying here. Beautiful place!
  • A very beautiful island to visit on a Sunday morning or to let the stress out

Where to stay in Stockholm

Glitzy Stockholm provides an abundance of high-end four-star hotels and international chains that come with a reputation of being pricey and feature a distinguished Scandinavian design. You can save yourself a little money by searching out the discounts these hotels often offer. If you're looking for something more affordable, consider the medium-priced hotels north of the Old Town. The least-expensive options lie near Central Station. Since offerings tend to be more affordable the farther you go from the city center, you'll serve yourself well to find a spot near public transport. Hostels in the city tend to fill up fast, so book online in advance. Many of hotels offer the
