German Church, Stockholm

#9 of 23 in Historic Sites in Stockholm
While strolling through the city's Old Town, stop by German Church and admire the impressive architecture and collection of religious ornaments. The church is dedicated to Saint Gertrude, the protector of the guild of German merchants. The guild's headquarters was transformed into a church in the 18th century. From its 86 m (282 ft) steeple adorned with gargoyles, to the Baroque interior and large stained-glass windows, the structure is an architectural masterpiece. The church has a long history as one of Sweden's foremost centers of religious music. Today many organ concerts are organized here, and the site is famous for choir singing and melodic bells. Admission to the church is free. Make German Church part of your personalized Stockholm itinerary using our Stockholm vacation trip planner.

Beautifully decorated Church. When we visited the Church was the concert here. The Church has beautiful stained glass Windows on the walls. Stockholm has more magnificent churches than this, but this is certainly been a visit.

Where to stay in Stockholm

Glitzy Stockholm provides an abundance of high-end four-star hotels and international chains that come with a reputation of being pricey and feature a distinguished Scandinavian design. You can save yourself a little money by searching out the discounts these hotels often offer. If you're looking for something more affordable, consider the medium-priced hotels north of the Old Town. The least-expensive options lie near Central Station. Since offerings tend to be more affordable the farther you go from the city center, you'll serve yourself well to find a spot near public transport.
