Fjarilshuset (Butterfly House), Stockholm

2.6
#4 of 13 in Trails in Sweden
Enter Stockholm's tropical oasis and admire some of nature's most radiant colors at Fjarilshuset (Butterfly House). Located inside Haga Park, the lush indoor heaven of exotic greenery, bright flowers, and warm streams is home to more than 700 different species of butterflies flying freely. The temperature inside the habitat is regulated throughout the year and allows its delicate residents to flourish even in Sweden's cold climate. Even though it's located outside Stockholm city-center, the park is easily reached by car or public transportation. Humidity inside the habitat is kept at high levels, which benefits the butterflies, but might be unpleasant for sensitive visitors. • We came to Hagaparken specifically for the Butterfly Park. My kids had a great time. 4 Year old daughter couldn't get enough of chasing or staring at butterflies, & 5 & 8 year old boys loved the shark...  more »
  • We picked this attraction still quickly before we left from Stockholm. The ticket was included in our Stockholm Pass and it was a short bus ride from our hotel. We had already visited the aquarium in Djurgården and that was disappointing small, and we were expecting especially an attraction for small children. We were pleasantly surprised. Upon entering there is a expo oven dangerous animals, this is rather childish with plastics robots of a snake, hippo and crocodile. There is some interesting info about parasites and insects but many children in this attraction, it is often difficult to quiet all the explanations. After this space we came in the butterfly garden, which is quite large and impressive. There are information boards about the different butterflies, but we were especially. First you will see nothing, but after some practice spot you anywhere. There are feed places with fruit, honey or flowers, who regularly be refilled. At one of these spots landed a big Butterfly just on my scarf, and tried to drink it! Children often scare if a butterfly comes close and make a lot of noise, but if you calm and patient are the butterflies nearby. In a closet in the middle of the garden are all dolls collected. There is always one that just emerged, just his wings dries, for the first time just flies. Mind where you step, both only became butterflies as quail chicks come right in front of your feet. Furthermore, the shark aquarium. Also this seems to be very large, there are several places where you can have a look. If it were up to the large window is too busy, then go into one of the side-passages. With some patience you see all kinds. There is another corridor with info about the sharks, both the types you see here as other sharks. The photos are nice but the info could what better. It's too hard for kids who skip the signs, and not detailed enough for adults. We especially liked the angel sharks impressive, a species that we did not know. Four stars for the butterfly garden and the aquarium-we spent a lot more time than expected.
