Where to stay in Stockholm

Glitzy Stockholm provides an abundance of high-end four-star hotels and international chains that come with a reputation of being pricey and feature a distinguished Scandinavian design. You can save yourself a little money by searching out the discounts these hotels often offer. If you're looking for something more affordable, consider the medium-priced hotels north of the Old Town. The least-expensive options lie near Central Station. Since offerings tend to be more affordable the farther you go from the city center, you'll serve yourself well to find a spot near public transport. Hostels in the city tend to fill up fast, so book online in advance. Many of hotels offer the

  • It is a small museum but we enjoyed the visit. It is by the Moderna Museet, same entrance. They share a Museum Shop with interesting things to buy. The island is very nice so the walk to the museum an...  more »

  • For those interested in architecture, this is a nice enough place to visit. There's descriptions of Swedish architectural history and development, miniature models of both houses that were built, and that weren't, and some other tidbits of knowledge. Free entrance, but the exhibit is small. It shares locale with the Modern Museum, so you can stroll from ArkDes to there, without leaving the building.
  • Really interesting exhibition on housing affordability and availability. Also, a gingerbread house competition! I didn't think I'd be very interested, but it really surprised me. And it's free. It's in the same building as the Modern Museet (modern art gallery)
  • ArkDes: Great for anyone interested in buildings, typography, shapes, design, materials, – has a great public library too.
  • Great collection of art and a really cool store. The audioguide you can download on your smartphone gives you important information about many pieces.
  • The free exhibition was very poor exhibition; junk, it is very hard to understand due to a bad expo design, especially for the sweden home crisis expo which was overloaded and not well presented/divided. I would not recommend. Plus, i was surprised they were showing contemporary art instead of design/architecture
