  • The ruins of the Church of Saint Olof main attraction once capital city of Sigtuna, and now small town, reminiscent of the former stolichnosti. It is believed that there were many churches, but almost all of them were destroyed, and some argue that this is done with the Novgorod Karelians XII century. Yes even stole away the famous gates of Sigtuna, copies of which now can be seen in St. Sophia Cathedral in Veliky Novgorod, and in the historical Museum in Moscow. True, others argue that Gates is working magdeburgskih masters and much later. Actually, this was the main reason, attracted us to this town. And the ruins of the Church of Olof, with some imagination, provide that the Sigtuna Gates once graced one of the churches of the town. Maybe it is this!

  • A building that has much history to talk about. Then, 2015 is the ruin cordoned due to landslide risk. It would be good to try to recover as much as possible, why not?

  • As many as eleven Churches seem to have been in on the heels of the middle ages. Today, only St. Mary's Church-the only remaining in brick. Of the other three can be seen in the form of ruins, St OLAF's ruin stands today on the cemetery around St. Mary's Church. For security reasons, we cannot go into ruin due to the risk of falling rocks. However, it is fascinating to look through the metal gate and watch old building in grey stone. I've been told me that when St Mary's church underwent a renovation in the early 1970s held Matins in St OLAF's ruin-with burning torches on the walls and with the starry sky as roof. It must have been a beautiful experience!
