  • The construction of the Church of St. Olaf began probably in the first half of the 12nd century. From 2000 excavations have led to the discovery that the remnants of the Church today is based on an older building possibly the oldest stone church in Sweden. It was equipped with a large choir, a House and a well whose traces remain.

  • The ruins of the Church of Saint Olof main attraction once capital city of Sigtuna, and now small town, reminiscent of the former stolichnosti. It is believed that there were many churches, but almost all of them were destroyed, and some argue that this is done with the Novgorod Karelians XII century. Yes even stole away the famous gates of Sigtuna, copies of which now can be seen in St. Sophia Cathedral in Veliky Novgorod, and in the historical Museum in Moscow. True, others argue that Gates is working magdeburgskih masters and much later. Actually, this was the main reason, attracted us to this town. And the ruins of the Church of Olof, with some imagination, provide that the Sigtuna Gates once graced one of the churches of the town. Maybe it is this!

  • A building that has much history to talk about. Then, 2015 is the ruin cordoned due to landslide risk. It would be good to try to recover as much as possible, why not?
