Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web
Dalhalla is an amphitheatre located in a former limestone quarry, and is used as a summer music venue. It is located 7 km north of Lake Siljan and the town of Rättvik in Dalecarlia in central Sweden.

The quarry is 60 metres deep, 400 metres long and 175 metres wide. The open air theater was opened in 1995 and currently has 4000 seats. The acoustical qualities are comparable to the best outdoor stages in Europe.

Dalhalla presents 20-30 events each summer, from June to the beginning of September with a combination of opera, choral works, and jazz and popular concerts making up the balance of the program. In 2005, guest performers came from the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and Mikis Theodorakis celebrated his 80th birthday. On June 30 2007 English rock group Procol Harum performed with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra and the Dala Sinfonietta Choir, conducted by David Firman.

In the immediate area, the Jussi Björling Museum is located.

  • Was there and saw Malena Ernman, a powerful experience to sit in this rather odd concert venue, certainly worth a visit. We were there in July and I have two tips, bring a blanket to have around the body (check what the evening temperature is expected to be) and take the seat cover. Otherwise, it is most välorndnat. Expect it to take time when you are home, some walk up and then exit the car.

  • Romantic, exciting, great! The place has the sublime emotions. Were on the Opera CARMEN. A sense of unreality, open-air Opera, the extraordinary feeling when the sun goes down. Majestic nature surrounding you, contact with wonderful, will leave nobody indifferent. Performance badly, compared with Russian singers. But the place is magical. Much depends on the weather. We were lucky that there was no rain, although all promised it. If you are by car, don't buy bus tickets, bus passes for 1.5 hours and you are bound to him. Easier to reach by car. And another tip is to take a warm pillows or blankets on the seat. There I saw only blankets and raincoats. And better tyre in comfortable shoes, much to walk ahead.

  • This is definitely a unique concert venue-outdoors. There are good parking and many seats. A piece to go from the parking lot. Bring rain gear for this outdoor concert site. Very nice music offered here.

  • Impressive place with amazing light and sound experience. Damn very knott the day we were there because it was raining a lot before the concert. It was good to where ever you put it was good visibility and at the top there was food and drink. Biggest minus that it didn't get to be with camper beyond at 10:00 the day after the concert, it should at least be 12. Another minus that we didn't get to bring the beer to the site. A must to visit for everyone.
