Dalhalla, Rattvik
(4.8/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Dalhalla is an amphitheatre located in a former limestone quarry, and is used as a summer music venue. It is located 7 km north of Lake Siljan and the town of Rättvik in Dalecarlia in central Sweden.

The quarry is 60 metres deep, 400 metres long and 175 metres wide. The open air theater was opened in 1995 and currently has 4000 seats. The acoustical qualities are comparable to the best outdoor stages in Europe.

Dalhalla presents 20-30 events each summer, from June to the beginning of September with a combination of opera, choral works, and jazz and popular concerts making up the balance of the program. In 2005, guest performers came from the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and Mikis Theodorakis celebrated his 80th birthday. On June 30 2007 English rock group Procol Harum performed with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra and the Dala Sinfonietta Choir, conducted by David Firman.

In the immediate area, the Jussi Björling Museum is located.

  • We had a fantastic evening in Dalhalla where we saw and heard Carmen. Exciting scene and set design where the environment played a major role. You should have warm and happy blankets for it gets cold when the evening gets late. The food you could buy.

  • The atmosphere in Dalhalla is exceptional when performance is good and it is packed in the stands. The acoustics are completely unique.

  • Was there and saw Malena Ernman, a powerful experience to sit in this rather odd concert venue, certainly worth a visit. We were there in July and I have two tips, bring a blanket to have around the body (check what the evening temperature is expected to be) and take the seat cover. Otherwise, it is most välorndnat. Expect it to take time when you are home, some walk up and then exit the car.

  • Couldn't enter so it was hard to see what all fuss is about.
  • Really amazing place!, the only thing I didn't like were the seats. I hope they will get replaced ;)
  • The feel of this place is just amazing. In the middle of nowhere you find this place? Just amazing. This might be crossed of my bucket list, but I'm surely come to this place many more times!
  • Fantastiskt ställe för konsert och opera!
  • Was at Dalhalla concert of Mando D! Volume was terribly high and when they talked not heard what they said. We sat on the 41st series. Why do you have to shout out everything said from the stage? A big disappointment was already in the entre ' n then not even had to take an empty water bottle, plastic that you want to keep because it's useful for me. One last påpekning, ensure that the toilet rolls to the bathroom is open and pulled out from the tank when deployed there! Doesn't feel good to visit Dalhalla again!
