  • Historical site from the 1100 's. Here one can truly admire the architects and builders, the vaults are masterpieces. To get an insight into how the monks lived and lived. To walk around the ruins and let your imagination play was a pleasure. It is possible to take a guided walk around the ruins.

  • To go yourself in Alvastra monastery is just an experience, to go on a guided tour provide even more context about the history of and contact with the outside world. You feel a peace when going around among the ruins of the old monastery. The walnut tree in the monastery's old garden brings to mind the warmer latitudes and it was also from France the monks came to the Omberg in the early 1100 's. Alvastra was a hub in Sweden during the early middle ages and Sweden first library of hand-written books on calf hides were here. Armariet which was the name of the book collection that was available in the library. This place is worth a visit even for non-historical interest because it is a special environment and to be imprisoned by the peculiar with the site.
