Since 1992, I have from time to time overtaken glass roof down to the Drottens church ruins at Kattesund and have endeavored to locate the small and inconspicuous entrance next to the Restaurant Gattostretto. Today, however, we were eating at that restaurant (Please read more in other rating) and suddenly appeared the entrance down to the Drotten via the restaurant. Of course, we went down and looked at the ruin, read all the signs and listened to the short (5 min) film about the history of the Church. The facts presented are interesting and it is extremely fascinating to think back a thousand years to the Church seal Lund, but the question still appeared is if this is something that every lundaturist should experience. On the question, I probably still answer No. This is not something you as a tourist must see, but do you have half an hour of waiting for the train, a cinema or restaurant table shall be free, and you will naturally take the opportunity to take a trip down to this secluded basement museum.

Enter the plain-looking building from the sixties in the Center and rolling off the lift. Suddenly another world. You can see the model of the first Christian Church on the site and the actual ruins of the former brick.

Was lucky to have with the guide on the trip down to the Church. Got a good introduction to Lunds and church history. Amazing that the Church has survived this long. "Museum" is unfortunately ill-suited to those who do not understand Swedish.

  • Drottens Church is a medieval church in Central Lund, who later became a museum. Drottens Church was built probably during 1050 century and demolished in the course of the Reformation. Over the old site utlades Street Kattesund. In connection with excavations at Kattesund in the 1970s and 80s were found the ruins. Even an older stave church was found in the same place. At the excavations also found traces of an older stave church in wood. It is believed to have been built by the Danish King Svend Tveskæg around the year 990. This makes the stave church to Lund and Scania's oldest church. It was decided that the stones would have the remain and be made into an underground museum and a House was to be built on top. The Museum was inaugurated on 11 september 1987.

Where to stay in Lund

The historical university town of Lund, with its charming buildings and cobblestone streets, generally appeals to travelers with moderate to upscale budgets. Here you'll find a number of mid-range hotels as well as a couple upscale hotels, the closer to the city center the better. There are scant hostels and no guesthouses or bed and breakfasts. Look to Lund's neighboring rival, Uppsala, for more budget-friendly options.
