Gammelstad Church Town, Lulea

Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.3/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
Visit one of the best-preserved monuments of old Swedish tradition at Gammelstad Church Town. Collections of cottages similar to this one were once a common sight in Sweden. Before the age of cars, people who attended religious festivities from the countryside often couldn't make it back home on the same day, so they built a cottage next to the church. Many of the cottages are still privately owned, but some are open for visitors and restored to give you a glimpse into Swedish history. You can also visit a 15th-century cathedral, and try your hand at traditional crafts. Guided tours are regularly available in Swedish and English, but if you require a specific time or another language, you can book a tour in advance. • A pleasant walk for a skåning between the small houses. But a history of the buildings had raised the visit. Put up a notice if no guide ä present.
