The Swedish Air Force Museum, Linkoping

(4.8/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Explore a collection of over 50 military aircraft at The Swedish Air Force Museum, and delve into complementary exhibits of engines, instruments, uniforms, literature, and photographs. The museum opened in 1984 on the former training field of the country's first flying school, which was opened by Sweden's first aviator Carl Cederström in 1912. Home to the sole surviving Junkers Ju 86 and a renowned DC-3 shot down in 1952, the museum also exhibits pioneer equipment in aviation such as an SK 1 Albatros, M 1 Nieuport, and B 1 Bréguet. The museum spans three levels with a small outdoor exhibit. On the upper level, learn firsthand about the modern JAS 39 Gripen, a single-engine multirole fighter aircraft, via flight simulators. • The visit to the Museum was unexpectedly good! There were a lot of kids and explore while it was interesting and instructive for us adults. It was also good food in the restaurant which is located in the same building. Well worth a visit!

  • The air force museum, ideal to go for a rainy day and check out the airplane from different decades. They often make a theme where you can follow along by a time-traveling. Try gripen Simulator! The food is good and there are a lot of families.

  • Great aviation museum with free admission and a lot of planes to see. The Gripen flight simulator is awesome, with great instructors (but needs to be booked in advance)
  • It's a very great and huge place for all ages with interactive games and a lot of history. And it's free . There's also a plane of the cold war that has been 50 years under water with a beautiful story.
  • This one is really, really good perhaps especially if you are interested in the Swedish air force during the cold war. Lots of old planes on display as well. Lunch is served in the restaurant. Small book/gift shop. Highly recommended!
  • Awesome place. Good planes on display, specially form swedish airforce and some good interactive activities like a flying simulator.
  • Not too big but very nice museum, focusing on the Swedish airforce with of course a lot of attention to the locally manufactured Saab fighter jets. Changing exhibitions outside of the regular planes on display with lots of attention to interactive stuff for kids from flight simulators to a small windtunnel and an outside area with skelters in the form.of vintage aeroplanes. The permanent exhibition in the basement of the wreckage of a DC-3 that was found on the bottom of the sea after being missing for 50 years is especially well done and quite emotional. Good souvenir shop with Swedish airforce goodies. All texts in both Swedish and English. Highly recommended and entry to the museum is completely free!
