Tourist Spot Mine
Descend deep below the surface of the Earth and learn about the process of mining one of the world's most sought-after commodities at LKAB's Visitor Centre. Located in the north of Sweden, the mine that opened over a century ago is now one of the largest and most modern in the world. More than 70,000 tons of ore are extracted here every day. Go on an underground bus tour of the "show mine" and learn about mining techniques throughout history. Find out how such huge quantities of ore are transported to the surface, and gain a better understanding of the environmental impact of mining operations. The mine is clean and safe, but you will be provided with a hard hat and a pair of overalls. Tours are available in Swedish and English, and you can make a booking online. Bus tours leave from the tourist office in Kiruna, and the cost of your ticket includes coffee and a cookie. Using our custom trip planner, Kiruna attractions like LKAB's Visitor Centre can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Where to stay in Kiruna

In the Arctic town of Kiruna, most accommodations lie in town, including cottages, cabins, guesthouses, and a handful of mid-market hotels and bed and breakfasts. If your budget allows, stay in the world-renowned ice hotel. Abisko National Park is an hour or so outside the main town, so if that's your reason for visiting, opt to stay at a mid-market or upscale hotel near the park. You can also camp in the park itself and take a guided tour to see the Northern Lights.
