Kiruna Kyrka, Kiruna

4.3
#1 of 6 in Historic Sites in Norrbotten County
Admire the creative approach to architecture at Kiruna Kyrka, one of the finest examples of Swedish innovation. Completed in 1912, the unusual-looking church is shaped to resemble a traditional Sami tent. The church is filled with masterpieces of art and design, from the gilded statues on the roof to Prince Eugen's elaborate altarpiece, and yet radiates a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Right next to the church is its bell tower, another gem of ecclesiastical architecture. No fee is required to enter the church; check online for a schedule of services and special events, such as concerts. • The structure is quite large and impressive made entirely of wood. Carini inlays. On the front there are pictures of Saints but at the same time does not present the cross on the Church as we are accustomed us to see it. Will be shifted entirely to the new kiruna with Town Hall nearby. Maybe is the only attraction of the country

  • Given the late time when we arrived, the Church was closed, but he impressed the structure ... Very pretty!

  • Different church compassion of the Proto-Norse and Northern. Worth watching is the magnificent organ and a beautiful bell tower. The altarpiece is lit up like a thriving small våräng in the mountains.

Where to stay in Kiruna

In the Arctic town of Kiruna, most accommodations lie in town, including cottages, cabins, guesthouses, and a handful of mid-market hotels and bed and breakfasts. If your budget allows, stay in the world-renowned ice hotel. Abisko National Park is an hour or so outside the main town, so if that's your reason for visiting, opt to stay at a mid-market or upscale hotel near the park. You can also camp in the park itself and take a guided tour to see the Northern Lights.
