Kiruna Iron Mine, Kiruna
Categories: Tourist Spots, Mines
Descend deep below the surface of the Earth and learn about the process of mining one of the world's most sought-after commodities at Kiruna Iron Mine. Located in the north of Sweden, the mine that opened over a century ago is now one of the largest and most modern in the world. More than 70,000 tons of ore are extracted here every day. Go on an underground bus tour of the "show mine" and learn about mining techniques throughout history. Find out how such huge quantities of ore are transported to the surface, and gain a better understanding of the environmental impact of mining operations. The mine is clean and safe, but you will be provided with a hard hat and a pair of overalls. Tours are available in Swedish and English, and you can make a booking online. Bus tours leave from the tourist office in Kiruna, and the cost of your ticket includes coffee and a cookie. Using our custom trip planner, Kiruna attractions like Kiruna Iron Mine can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Scandinavian exhibition didactics is already the Central European practices for a long time, and so you can learn at the pits-tour: * much about the technology of mining (nona) * quite a lot about the economic and social importance * on working conditions in the early days and now * about the development of Landshchaft and society in the city * how mining characterizes the city (see below). Mining in Kiruna, and it makes no secret of the leadership, is very ambiguous for the city. On the one hand, the whole region lives essentially from the LKAB. Kiruna would simply not exist without the ore mine, I mean, there were also no natural park in Abisko and no ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi. On the other hand is the city in the mine. I've accumulated GPS tracks and photos of roads over the years that I still went and are the only Sperzone or stone heaps. This is not pretty sight. Two years ago I am driven away, a month later still by train from the old station was closed it. The Town Hall, whose Architektur has won awards, must move 2018 because the ground entzgen is him literally -. This pit is not "nothing" there so and that makes unique Kiruna. Back to the leadership: especially nice, I find always the coffee break ("fika" is what we call, and before he who laughs: the i is pronounced long, and what do you mean 'knulla' where the u is pronounced like ü), which has a high priority in Sweden. Big minus point, which is why I forgive not 5 points here: the time is too short, to visit the exhibition. There you can stay not just longer because the entire group with the bus must drive up together again. That's too bad, because the exhibition shows not only a few old tools and phones (note, having the Swedish dials 0 elsewhere than in Central Europe), but describes the housing situation, working conditions, a hit is the local tram with a coal stove and why is the water bucket below pointed? I bring everyone, not at three on the trees are in this exhibition and would strongly suggest visiting all TripadvisorleserInnen (and please give the organizers feedback that they like to fashion the duration, having time for the show :-)) Reservation required, in summer if possible at least one week in advance.show original
