  • The Swedish fortress Drottningsher (Swede. Kastell Drottningskärs), is a short "Osinovom island" — Aspjo (Swede. Aspö), 2.5 miles from the coast of the neighboring island of Trossjo (Swede. Trossö) is the central part of Karlskrona. Reach the island Aspjo is available for free at any time on a small car ferry leaving regularly from the Marina of Karlskrona. The journey time, which you can admire the picturesque coastal city views, beautiful building of the Naval Museum and the small islets, is a little more than 20 minutes. From history we know that city on several islands in the archipelago of Blekinge (Swede. Blekinge) was founded by King Charles XI in the year 1680. Zadumyvavshis', as a naval base, Karlskrona was supposed to be protected from the sea. For this purpose, as well as possible, approached two large island (Aspjo and Tjurkjo), separating the new entrance to the harbor of Karlskrona and separated by just 1200-metre channel. In parallel with the city, the Islands begins the erection of fortifications. Fortress (although the size of the strengthening is more like Fort) on the island of Aspjo (an area of 8 km2) was called Drottningsher (the Swede. Kastell Drottningskärs), which means "Queen Shhera". The architect of the fortress became a distinguished engineer, Eric Graf continues under Jonsson Dahlberg (Swede. Erik Jönsson Dahlbergh), whose dream was to see the Citadel, among the most beautiful sea fortresses in Europe. Construction of a fortress, with few interruptions, lasted 70 years, from 1680 to 1750 years. In the architectural plan of the Citadel is a four corner bastion, and the powerful three-storey donjon built of large blocks of granite brought from the island of Öland (Swede. Öland) is the second largest Swedish island in the Baltic Sea, after Gotland. Bastions got the names of the Queens: Mary (Maria), Christine (Christina), Hedwig (Hedwig) and Ulrike (Ulrika). Inside the Citadel, you can immediately see an ancient Bell of the 18th century and extant House of the Commandant of the fortress (1794), which today is a restaurant with an outdoor terrace. From the courtyard of the fortress you can climb on to the sea, a wide battery (or balls) deck connecting the bastions of them. Queens Christina (left) and Mary (right). Garrison was about 250 soldiers, and armament consisted of about 50 guns of various calibres, located on all three levels of the Citadel. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Citadel stood several times in "battle mode" guard Karlskrona, but serious hostilities and participation is not adopted. Gradually, the value of the fortress has fallen and, in the period from 1870 to 1895 years ceased definitively. The current owner of the fortress-managing public housing property, starting with the year 1993, regularly carries out a planned reconstruction of the object and maintain it in perfect condition. So, in the year 2008 completely renovated the bridge leading from the ravelin of the Citadel, it is planned to restore some lost bridges, updated Museum exhibitions, excursions, running information center.
