Tropikariet, Helsingborg

#1 of 89 in Outdoors in Skane County
Get close to exotic animals from all over the world at , the city's indoor zoo. All of its inhabitants are housed in carefully recreated natural environments that are designed to provide you with an interactive experience. Don't be surprised if you come face to face with a curious lemur, or if a bat flies right over your head. Test your bravery and try petting a shark or holding a snake or a crocodile. The keepers provide guided tours. There is also a cafe with a view of the animal habitats. The facilities are wheelchair-accessible, but there are some steep slopes and narrow paths where assistance might come in handy. • Be appreciated tremendously by children! I myself am against animals in cages but eyes glow in their eyes. Go here for a trip

  • Worth a visit both for families and the elderly. To be able to walk among the lemurs and marmosets, small is an experience.

  • I visited this indoor zoo and found it to be a lovely little gem, many of the animals are uncaged and seem perfectly at ease with their circumstances. The lemurs and meerkats were a particular delight...  more »

  • This place is a marvelous option for a family visit any time. The entrance fee for a family of four (two adults and two children) is SEK 390,- which is not bad by the Swedish standard (in my opinion). Animals are at your proximity, I have never seen anything like this anywhere in the world. There are no fences or glass to separate you from animals. It is a unique experience. The place is small, for obvious reasons stated above. There is a little cafeteria serving coffee (American style only, forget your cappuccino). The coffee is good and so is the price for it. The shop selling soft toys may not be cheap but it is selling beautiful soft animals we have not seen elsewhere on offer. We ourselves purchased a giant soft bird - Cockatiel - for SEK 499,-. We spent three hours in Tropikariet altogether.
  • Imagine Walking in the jungle by night. You see a shadow above you in the trees. In front of you there are snakes and bats. You are surrounded by animals. But - dont be afraid - you are at the tropikariet. Great Place
  • From the building, you wouldn't have guessed it's actually a fun place. It looks like a plain brick factory — perhaps an update on the appearance a bit? Make it look like a place to take your family to. That aside, I did like it. The animals were happy and well taken care of and it was an immersive experience. Definitely a place to take kids and a fun learning experience for all. :)
  • very good attraction for kids and adults. warm meals inside, lots of fun inside
  • Good place for kids . Different types of small animals. some r even roaming freely. Aquarium is good. Tickets are little costly.

Where to stay in Helsingborg

Unlike many Swedish cities, this harborfront town offers abundant bed and breakfasts and guesthouses. In this pedestrian-dominated city, most travelers prefer to be closer to the city core for convenience and access to the long paths along the shore. A number of reasonably priced, mid-market hotels line the main street. There are also a couple hostels. Note that it is customary to pay an extra charge for linens and towels at Swedish hostels.
