Slottsskogen, Gothenburg

4.6
#1 of 23 in Zoos & Aquariums in Sweden
In addition to parkland, Slottsskogen offers sites such as a zoo and Swedish heritage area. The park was founded in 1876, during the development of the 17th-century city of Gothenburg. The popular zoo features native animals, and the historical zone is full of small Swedish cottages typical of different regions. Take in the natural surroundings at this 137 hectare (339 acre) park by exploring open spaces or hiking one of its many trails. Stroll through the English-inspired landscaping or play a game at one of the park's many sports fields. Stumbled upon this. Lots of uphill walking but worth it. Train takes you straight out there. Beautiful animals.  more »

well relieved by vital transport, easy arrival from the 4 cardinal points the central forest system in winter and summer. very well maintained by the commune and the environmental associations, receives visits throughout the year and there celebrated festivals of art, music, dance, sports, enjoying several restaurants, variety of animals and pleasant nature. There is no collection of entries and its doors (that do not have them) are always open. pride of the port city.

Thanks to TA reviews we stopped to visit this wonderful hilly Park (free entry), next to the Botanical Garden (wonderful!). You visit on foot or by bike hire (not recommended to anyone who is struggling on the climbs). Inside there are small lakes, very well equipped for children, catering facilities and services. In the middle there is a zoo populated by reindeer, cows, moose, seals, penguins and various other farm animals. Particularly suitable for children mini Barners zoo (closes all 16.30) where children can fondle directly small goats that roam free in the fenced area and see other animals (pigs, sheep). You can spend all day. We stumbled on 13 August, closing day of the annual music festival Way Out West, occupying much of the Park making it temporarily inaccessible and forcing us to make several detours along the way. We came out tired but happy.
