Göteborgs Stadsmuseum, Gothenburg
(3.9/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Established in 1861, Göteborgs Stadsmuseum takes visitors through West Sweden's history from the Viking Age to the present day. The cultural museum sits inside the 18th-century East India House, and an exhibit details the evolution of the company. Artifacts include Viking coins, jewelry, tools, a ship, and an original key to the city gates. Be aware that although displays are very informative and interesting, there is little English signage. The site does offer guided tours, a playroom for children, and a cafe. • I love to go there as I had leisure time, as this place gives immense clam to yourself. you can enjoy evening time.
  • The museum was very well presented and had a very good layout. It was really enjoyable to walk through the museum and experience artefacts through the ages. Be warned that it was full of kids when we ...  more »

  • September 2016: probably the worst museum I've ever been to. It might get better when they open the new exhibit in 2017, but more than half of the building was closed when we went there, and the exhibits they had were "really stretchin' it" ... enough content for one roomful diluted across 4 floors. I'm posting this not to complain, but to warn other travelers. Don't expect much, especially from the viking exhibit.
  • Free musée un with a variety of exhibits. Some in English and some in Swedish only. Fun 1-2 hour stop when visiting Gothenburg,
  • Interesting museum, but mostly closed for renovation until spring 2017 I went as the museum is free for -25yo, and I'm planning to go back then Exhibitions on Goteborg folks life from the 1700 (Viking era was closed) are good, also a very good part on more modern history of Goteborg
  • Small museum with interesting exhibits in a beautiful building. A wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon in Göteborg.
  • If you know nothing about Vikings, this place is for you. Also ticket gets you into a few other local museums.
