History Museum Specialty Museum
Established in 1861, Göteborgs Stadsmuseum takes visitors through West Sweden's history from the Viking Age to the present day. The cultural museum sits inside the 18th-century East India House, and an exhibit details the evolution of the company. Artifacts include Viking coins, jewelry, tools, a ship, and an original key to the city gates. Be aware that although displays are very informative and interesting, there is little English signage. The site does offer guided tours, a playroom for children, and a cafe. • For a smaller city, this museum was impressive. It is house in the East India Tea Company building. The exhibits were informative and the layout was "jet-lag friendly."  more »
  • For a history buff like me, this was a great visit. Some sections of the Museum were in construction, so I did not a full overview of the city's history, but the parts that were open were well designe...  more »

  • It's free for under 25, so that's cool. The first floor has Viking stuff, not so much but it's ok. 3rd floor is also worth visiting although there is not much in general they have something for sure you may take an interest to. 2nd floor for me was the worst. Almost all in Swedish I could not understand anything and just seeing things of a crazy person. For a non Swedish one that is extremely strange.
  • Did I like it? That I did! Would I recommend it? Yes I do! What did i cost? 40sek and even included the entry fee fout (!!) other museums as well! And the ticket is valid the whole calendar year out! That's a great deal! Suitable for everyone? Yes I think so. There were elevators and it seemed to easy to access with a wheelchair. How was the service? Really good! Very service minded and nice!
  • Great exhibition about birth of the city. It's exemplary. I wish we had something like it in others cities I've lived in.
  • Realy great museum. It is very modern and beautiful. Worth seeing it
  • This museum is very near our hotel Riverton when we are living in Sweden. It's not a big museum but it seems to offer a lot. There are a fair number of displays. The museum was very well presented and had a very good layout. It was really enjoyable to walk through the museum and experience artefacts through the ages.
