Falu Mine, Falun
(4.5/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Visit Falu Mine and learn how one of the biggest workshops in Swedish history used to work, both above and below the ground. For 12 centuries the enormous mine was one of Europe's biggest suppliers of copper. Above ground you can admire the gigantic pit, tour the mining facilities, see the museum collection that tells the story of the mine, and take part in various activities. The underground tour to a depth greater than 60 m (200 ft) allows you to get a clear idea of what working in these conditions must have been like. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and dress warmly, because the temperature at this depth is often just a fraction above freezing. Above and underground tours are charged separately and it's advisable to make reservations ahead of time. Using our international travel planner, Falun attractions like Falu Mine can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • FALU Gruva lyrics is one of the largest and most famous copper mines. The red brick of Scandinavian lodges is obtained from the extracted material here (to the shop you can see a little bag with red Falun). The complete tour requires at least half a day and there is also a fine Museum very informative and interactive activities. Don't miss the guided tour inside the mine (for about an hour in English). You go down many stairs and you feel the situations in which they found the miners: damp and dark. Should dress appropriately, although provides helmets and capes. The cost is quite high, about 25 €. Unfortunately it can be placed into groups and so we appreciate less the visit. There is also a little train at fixed hours ago a route between the historic buildings and the mine. Definitely worth visiting if Falun is by road.

  • We had intended to go skiing in Falun, but for lack of snow so it was a visit to the Falun mine instead. It was incredibly interesting and we learned both about Swedish history and history of Falun. An hour took the tour and the guide told me in a very compelling way.

  • A great excursion is mine and it is well worth recommending. We visited the mine during a half day and began with the tour in the mine, an "old wives ' tales and sägentur". Our children are 5 and 7 years old and a little creepy, it was to go down in the mine since it's dark and dripping water. Two children, repented and went back. Boots are recommended, galloncape and helmet are borrowing it. It is also cold, so bring an extra sweater. It was probably the sentence (and of course there are all the possibilities with exciting stories about the mine) that the wizard would make an exciting guided tour with stories for small children. But unfortunately it was a bit flat, and the Guide's stories came not quite up to the kids. It was a bit thin and some stories did not occur completely, for example the story of fetmats. In the end got the kids pick a rock with copper ore that they had to take home-it thought they were great fun. In the ticket included the visit to the Museum, who was creative and child-friendly design. Also of course very interesting for adults about the history surrounding the Falun mine and the world heritage site. There was a path to go for kids with things to discover, when all tasks were completed did they meet the King of the mine and was dubbed a Knight. Very appreciated. After the tour, it was time for lunch. We tested the first Geschwornergården, the buffet looked very good, but we chose it away when they had no options for children. Instead, we went to the Cafe Gjuthuset, very simple with ready-made sandwiches and pancakes and pies, but cozy environment. We finished with shopping in the store (fine craftsmanship to gingerbread cookies and toys) and looked at the films in the same House, which was also worth looking at.

  • Highly recommend the tour by the museum guide. Very interesting inside. It was worth the trip for us. Our kids liked it too. Town is small and much else to do.
  • Amazing cultural heritage. I really wish the tour would be deeper though, because when they tell you the cave goes 3 times deeper then the furthest you are going it just leaves you wanting more.
  • Great for both young and old. Great mine tour and a great museum
  • Wonderful mine. I suggest you the tour inside the mine.
  • Great museum for young and old! Very interactive, pedagogical and fun.
