  • I had recently read the Saga of the Volsungs, so I was very interested in visiting this rock carving about Sigurd and the dragon. It is well preserved and easy to see.
  • It's not easily accessible but a must-see when in the neighbourhood. Very famous and historically interesting.
  • If you love history, if you love ancient, message decoding you should see Sigurdsristningen. Sigurdsristningen is a runestone, but not typical. Because usually, specialy prepared and stone was placed in the right place, you can say, as a monument. And here used natural stone. As we have learned from the descriptions that are placed next to each other on the tablets (English and Swedish), it is located near the place where the bridge was. It is assumed that it was carved around the year 1030. In General, were the most varied runic inscriptions read: met different magical inscriptions and appeal to the gods, but mostly, the runes were written memorial inscriptions. This stone is also a Memorial. A woman built a bridge and made a picture with an inscription on a stone beside it (it used to be that bridges is in the afterlife) in memory of receiving the father or husband (Science undecided). In those times the Catholic Church sponsored the construction of roads and bridges through the use of indulgences in Exchange for intercession for souls. Runes tell one of the legends of Sigurd, Siegfried (remember "the song of the Nibelungs"?). Sigurd is one of the most important heroes of Norse mythology. What puzzles and bloody history, you ask? And you poedte and learn what these primitive figure! And poverte, history of addictive! Besides, free admission. It is possible to order zskukrsiû in the tourist centre of Èskel′stuny (it is already paid). Sigurdsristningen is located about 10 km north of Èskel′stuny, follow signs to Sundbyholm. There is also an app on izi. TRAVE by downloading that you get an audioguide in English or Swedish.
