4.0
Långe Erik, official name Ölands norra udde, is a Swedish lighthouse built in 1845 and located on a little island, Stora Grundet, in Grankullaviken bay at the north point of Öland, the second largest island in Sweden. The island is connected to Öland by a small bridge built in 1965.The lighthouse is whitewashed, 32 meters high. It was designed by H. Byström and built by Jonas Jonsson. The former lighthouse keeper's house is next to the lighthouse, with a few buildings from the 1900s.The older, larger lens is still installed, but no longer in use. The lens was used until the 1990s before an aerobeacon was installed on the lantern's balcony. The light is remote-controlled by the Swedish Maritime Administration. The tower is open to visitors during the summer season for a small fee.

  • Nice location for walking near and around the lighthouse. Funny to see the stone towers that people on the beach. We have combined with a stroll in Trollskogen, on the other side of the Bay.

  • Did you know that they built a (really) small village around the lighthouse so that the lighthouse keepers should be able to keep operating it? They even had a permanent living teacher here for the kids, cause in Sweden everyone has right to education. Fascinating! The view is nice and all the pictures that you take come out stunning! Last time we were there it was really blowing and the sea was ferocious, your really understand why a lighthouse was needed there...
  • Admission to the lighthouse: 40 SEK for adults, 20 SEK for children.
  • A bit expensive, but nice!
  • Nice spot. Go there if you are already in that area.
  • Beautiful but a bit exploited.
